Lagos, Feb. 27, 2017 (NAN) Many ex-servicemen and women on Monday gathered at the Ikeja Cantonment, Lagos to obtain their Combo Cards, with which to access their pensions and other facilities.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the card was meant to identify military pensioners in future verification and access their money in banks.
NAN recalls that Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, on Nov. 1, 2016 in Abuja, launched two identity cards for military retirees – Pensioners’/ Defence Health Maintenance and National Insurance Scheme cards.
“To ensure that our pensioners are identified and ghost pensioners’ syndrome eradicated, the Military Pension Board has evolved an identity card scheme.’’ The minister had said at the launch.
NAN reports that the ex-servicemen were grouped into three on Monday at Ikeja Cantonment with a view to access their cards within a short time.
NAN also observed that the elderly and weak among the ex-servicemen were carried by their relations, some on wheel chairs while others came on clutches.
The blind among them were also led to the venue by their relations.
The ex-servicemen were to produce either their verification paper done in Lagos or their discharged certificates.
Those who did their verification outside Lagos State were requested to return to their respective states to collect their cards.
The exercise will last seven days. (NAN)
