Agreement

Jos, May 11, 2018 (NAN) The Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) Plc on Friday in Jos signed a procedural agreement with its workers’ union in an effort to ensure effective service delivery.
The unions are National Union of Electricity Employees(NUEE) and Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC).
During the ceremony, Mr Mohammed Modibo, JED’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, explained that the signed document would serve as a law guarding against the excesses of both parties in the agreement.
According to him, the staff members are the company’s most valuable assets.
He said that the agreement would enhance the company’s capability of ensuring that staff were treated with fairness and with no sense of victimization.
Modibo said with the agreement, the staff would be supported to be the very best on the job and would be treated with honour.
In his response, Comrade Joe Ajero, the General Secretary of NUEE, who signed the agreement on behalf of the union, said that the agreement was a means to officially cement the working relationship with JED.
Ajero described the agreement as a step in the right direction, saying that it would ensure the protection of staff members from the company’s excesses while the company would also be protected from the workers’ unruly attitude to duties.
Mr Chris Okonkwo, the President of SSAEAC, who signed on behalf of his union, added that the agreement would make each party aware of its limits and ensure efficiency.
Okonkwo, who was represented at the occasion by Comrade Nasiru Dembo, the Deputy President of the Northern region, urged the staff members to work proactively and shun sharp practices as they are detrimental to both staff and company’s progress.
He reminded the workers that the union would not come to their aid if they were caught in any sharp practice.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that both parties agreed to work on the conditions of service, which ensures the safety and well-being of employees.
The conditions of service is slated to be signed by mid June 2018.(NAN)
