Daura (Katsina state) April 13, 2017 (NAN) Jigawa State Government says it has spent N396 million in two years to empower 30,000 rural women in the state.

Hajiya Ladi Dansure, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Daura on Thursday.

She said out of the amount, government procured goats worth N130 million which were distributed on revolving loan to rural women.

Dansure added that each of the beneficiaries got one he-goat and a she-goat

She said that N200 million was disbursed to thousands of women as empowerment gesture, adding that each woman received N20, 000 to enable them to establish small scale businesses.

Dansure also said that government spent N66million for women to enable them acquire various skills, including Jelly making, knitting, weaving among other related skills.

She said hundreds of women suffering from Visco Viginal Fistula (VVF) were also treated free of charge from the amount, to demonstrate state government’s commitment to ensure the health of the people of the state.

She lauded the open door policy of Gov. Badaru Abubakar on probity and accountability, adding, ”we would strive to actualise our dream for a better Jigawa.”

NAN reports that Dansure was in Daura to represent the Wife of President, Hajiya Aisha Muhammadu at the launching of the Daura zonal office of ”Change Begins with Me.” (NAN)
