Omu-Aran (Kwara), Sept. 12, 2017 (NAN) Malam Abdulrahman Ajidagba, the Chairman, Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC), has called for stakeholders’ support toward a hitch-free local government elections slated for Nov.18.
Ajidagba made the call on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Omu-Aran.
He said that collective efforts of stakeholders would help in achieving credible, free and fair elections at the grassroots.
Ajidagba urged politicians to abide with the electoral acts, both in their statements and conducts, and shun any act capable of heating up the polity.
“We should do away with politics of violence, do or die affairs and imbibe acts of tolerance and peaceful co-existence to ensure smooth council polls.
“It is only in a peaceful atmosphere that we can give our people the full dividends of democracy and good governance,” he said.
Also, Mr Assumi Ahmadu, the Electoral Officer, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Omu-Aran, pledged the support of the commission toward a hitch-free council poll.
Ahmadu also commended the massive turn out of eligible voters for the ongoing voter registration, urging those who have yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) to do so without delay.
He expressed optimism that the commission would meet up with its target for the registration.
Assumi lauded the effort of security agencies, traditional rulers and religious leaders in sustaining the existing cordial relationship among the indigenes and non-indigenes in the communities.
“With unity and harmony in place, our job of promoting the nation’s cherished democratic system becomes simpler and easier,” he said. (NAN)
