Lagos, March 13, 2018 (NAN) Mr Muminu Badmus, the Managing Director, Lagos Water Corporation, on Tuesday urged residents of the state to always contact the zonal offices of the corporation for new water connections.
Badmus told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the new water connections would ensure that residents with ageing pipes or no pipes at all were connected to the water mains.
He said that the corporation’s current pipe rehabilitation and expansion projects were meant to address all the perceptible challenges, adding, however, that the residents had to bring their challenges to its notice.
NAN reports that the Lagos Water Corporation started the water pipe rehabilitation, extension and expansion projects in different parts of Lagos State in 2016.
The projects, which involve replacement of pipes and expansion of water mains to tackle the problems of ageing pipes and “spaghetti’’ connections, are aimed at increasing water production, distribution and expansion of reticulation across the state.
Badmus said that the projects would help to check the menace of burst water pipes and leakages, being experienced as a result of illegal water connections.
“The Lagos State Government has invested heavily in the provision and delivery of potable water to its residents.
“The efforts have started yielding results, with regular water supply across the state.
“The corporation is presently increasing the tempo of water production, as the major waterworks are now working at their optimal capacity.
“It will be good for us if the residents with no or ageing connections visit our zonal offices nearest to them for new water connections,’’ he said.
Badmus also advised the residents to lodge reports on burst water pipes, pipe leakages and water wastages to the zonal offices for prompt replacement or action.
He urged the agencies working on roads across the state to always inform the corporation and work with its officials so as to prevent its facilities from being damaged in the course of road constructions.
Badmus, however, urged the residents to stay away from fully charged water mains in order to avert accidents that could lead to loss of lives.
He assured the residents of improved and uninterrupted water supply at all times. (NAN)
