Man, 38, in court over alleged car sales fraud

Abuja, July 18, 2017, (NAN) A 38-year-old man, Suleiman Nasiru, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, over alleged car sales fraud.

Nasiru of Karu, Abuja, is facing trial on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The prosecutor, Mr Malik Taiwo, told the court that on or about Dec.15, 2016, the office of the Inspector-General of Police, Abuja, was informed about the activities of the defendant.

Taiwo said the defendant, who pleaded not guilty, “hide under the pretence of a genuine and registered dealer cars’’.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant met with the complainant, one Franklin Edede of Area 11, Abuja “with the intention to cheat and deceive him.’’

He said the defendant collected a Golf 3 car with registration number RBC 284 NV valued at N700, 000 from Edede.

He said the defendant thereafter sold the car and converted the proceeds to his own use.

Taiwo said the offence is contrary to Sections 314 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N800, 000.

Kagarko ordered him to produce a reasonable and reliable surety who resides within the jurisdiction of the court.

He adjourned hearing until Aug. 9. (NAN)
