Defilement

Lagos, March 6, 2018(NAN) A 42-year-old man, Austin Uche, who allegedly defiled a 10-year-old girl, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Uche, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of unlawful sexual intercourse.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Kehinde Omisakin, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 20, at Spring Field Estate, Lamgbasa, Ajah, Lagos.
Omisakin alleged that the accused was caught by some neighbours having sexual intercourse with the girl.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 stipulates a life imprisonment on conviction.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, ordered that the case be referred to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Elias adjourned the case until April 11 for mention. (NAN)
