Man docked over assault on policeman

Abuja, Dec. 17, 2019(NAN) The Police on Tuesday, arraigned one Monday Ezekiel, 24, before a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court Abuja, over alleged criminal intimidation and assault on a police officer while on lawful duty.

The defendant who resides at Utako Village, Abuja, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of criminal intimidation and assault leveled against him.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that Igede Stanleyi, of Utako Police Station, reported the assault on him on Sept. 20.

Ukagha said the defendant had threatened to deal with the complainant, adding that Ezekiel made do his threat by jacking the officer who was in uniform in the public.

She further averred that the defendant went ahead to forcefully hit the policeman on the face.

Ukagha said the offence contravened provisions of sections 397 and 264 of the Penal Code.

The judge,  Inuwa Maiwada ordered the defendant to be remanded in Keffi Correctional Facility and adjourned the case until Jan. 19, for mention. (NAN)
