NCS in Niger collects over N1 billion in four months – Comptroller

Minna, April 27, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Custom Service, Niger Area Command, said it had collected over N1 billion as internally generated revenue from January till date.
Alhaji Garba Kabiru, outgoing Comptroller of Custom in charge of Niger, Kogi and Kwara, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Thursday.
He said that already the command had identified and blocked all illegal routes for smugglers.
Kabiru commended officers and men of the command for demonstrating high sense of moral conduct while discharging their primary assignments.
The comptroller, who was deployed to Custom Headquarters Abuja, said that the success recorded by the area command was due to selfless service rendered by the officers.
He commended traditional rulers, especially those at border communities, for sensitising residents to assist officers with required information on movement of smugglers.
Kabiru urged them to continue to support the service with vital intelligence information that would end smuggling business.
Meanwhile, Kabiru charged the 50 newly-promoted officers in the command to take their elevation as a call to higher responsibility.
The affected officers were among the 3,487 officers recently promoted to various ranks by the Comptroller-General of Customs, retired. Col. Hameed Ali, following the Presidential approval.
He also called on the officers to justify their new promotion by rededicating themselves to their official duty.
Kabiru explained that the service expected the officers to be more committed in ending smuggling business.
He said that the promotion was aimed at motivating the officers to be diligent, to ensure effective service delivery. (NAN)
