Kaduna, April 1, 2020 (NAN) The TEWORH Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation, on Wednesday, gave food items to more than 1,000 residents of Ungwan Bulus in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The founder of the Foundation, Abdulwahab Suraj Olaniyi, said the gesture was aimed at reducing the hardship being  faced by the residents, following the curfew imposed by the state government to prevent the spread of the ravaging coronavirus.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items distributed included some grains, palm oil, seasonings and salt, all packaged in disposable bags for the beneficiaries.

Olaniyi told the beneficiaries that the token was brought to them to ease the hardships being faced by some families, who depended on daily incomes.

“We want you to obey the directives given by the Kaduna State Government in the efforts at preventing the spread of the coronavirus also known as COVID-19.

“Ensure that you comply with the rule of social distancing, washing of hands frequently under running water with soap and embracing self isolation,” he said.

He said that though some residengs might find the curfew unpleasant at the moment, they would be glad at the end of the day that it was in their own interest and that of their families.

“As you can see, they are trooping out of their houses to come and get the food items, so many more residents need this support.

“We, therefore, call on corporate organisations and public spirited individuals to support this iniitiative so that more people can benefit from it.

“They can reach us through 08094349929 or contribute to our account TEWORH SSC, JAIZ Bank 0003574630,” he said.

He lauded those, who had contributed so far to the cause, as well as volunteers, who had assisted in the distribution exercise.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, an elder in the community, Mr Emmanuel Sunday, thanked the Foundation for the gesture.

“We are happy that you remembered us at a time of need. We pray that God Almighty continues to bless you and replenish your purse,” he said.

He assured that the community would always obey the government by complying with the directives given towards preventing the spread of the virus.

NAN recalls that on Monday, the foundation had also distributed food items to the less privileged in the Kaduna North Local Government Area of the metropolis. (NAN)
