NGO empowers 600 women in Nasarawa State

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Feb. 13, 2017 (NAN) The Buhari Charity Organisation, an NGO, says it has disbursed N6 million to 600 women in Nasarawa State in 2016.
Mr Suleiman Modibbo-Masaka, the National Chairman of Board of Trustees (BOT) of the body, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Keffi while fielding questions on the organisation’s 2017 activities.
“I want to disclose to you that last year, the organisation disbursed N6 million to 600 women in Keffi, Nasarawa State, so as to enable them start their businesses.
“Each of them got between N20,000 and N200,000 depending on the viability of their business plans,’’ he said.
He said the monetary disbursements were businesses startup packages for the beneficiaries.
“The body is aware of the challenges faced by these special groups of people in the society. We believe the gesture had impacted positively on their standard of living,’’ he said.
He said the group had expanded the gesture to cover more widows, orphans and motherless homes.
According to him, the 2017 plan includes the training of the less privileged to acquire new skills for them to become self-reliant.
“We are all aware that this organisation was formed with the aimed of promoting peace, unity and progress of our dear country.
“We also have the mandate to as well assist widows, orphans and the needy in the society.
“The body has a mandate to award scholarships to deserving and less privileged youths.
“Therefore, the 2017 plan shall witness the up-scaling of all these mandates.
“We will extend our education grants to indigent persons willing to study.
“The body is committed to the improvement of the standard of education as well as to reduce the burden of school fees on parents,’’ he said.
Modibbo-Masaka said: “We have been assisting widows, orphans and students with cash in different parts of the country.
“For example, in 2016, over 300 women in Garki District of FCT benefitted from our programme’’.
He, therefore, urged wealthy individuals in the society not to relent in their efforts toward assisting the needy.
The BOT chairman restated the commitment of the organisation to continue to initiate progammes that would development the country’s human capital. (NAN)
