Abuja, Jan. 26, 2017(NAN) Dr Abdul Hussaini, the Country Director, Plan International, has urged the Federal Government to channel its job creation scheme through the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) for easy and effective coordination.

Hussaini made the call on the sidelines of the Youth Initiative for Advocacy Growth and Development (YIAGA) annual retreat on Thursday in Abuja.

He said that rather than successive governments embarking on their own job creation schemes with different names, such ideas should be appropriately channeled through the NDE.

He said that interventions in youth unemployment in the country had not been well coordinated with the introduction of various schemes such as the YOUWIN, NAPEP, OYES and lately N-power.

Hussaini said that this had deprived the country from having a specific system of employment creation models which could have been routed through the NDE to form an organised scheme.

He said that various governments had come with their own ideas of job creation instead of continuing with the one they met on ground.

“They create theirs just to massage their egos.

“If various governments have invested their energy on NDE, such a programme would have been sustained for a long time and the rate of unemployment in the country would have been reduced,” he said.

He said that NDE and Industrial Training Fund (ITF) created during the military era had not been effectively run to achieve the purpose for which they were established.

Hussaini called on the government to harmonise its job creation agencies and allow the NDE to perform its statutory role of job creation. (NAN)
