Ipetumodu (Osun), May 15, 2018 (NAN) Mr Tunde Olatunji, a member of the Osun House of Assembly, has called for adequate motivation of teachers, saying this will improve the standard of education in the country.
Olatunji (APC-Ife North) made the remarks while unveiling his education awards and mentorship series for teachers and students on Tuesday in Ipetumodu, Ife North Local Government Area of the state.
The lawmaker said that with regular payment of salaries, provision of adequate teaching facilities and equipment as well as good welfare scheme, teachers would always be willing to give their best.
“Teachers will evaluate students more objectively and will give greater attention to details in teaching subjects if properly motivated, ” Olatunji said.
Olatunji also said that his award and mentorship programmes were aimed at acknowledging hardworking and outstanding teachers alongside students.
Also speaking, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, the Chief of Staff to Gov. Rauf Aregbesola, commended the lawmaker for his passion for education advancement in his constituency and the state at large.
Oyetola said the state government would continue to recognise hardworking teachers and brilliant students in public schools across the state.
In his remarks, Oba Adedotun Abolarin, the Orangun of Oke-Ila, urged students to always excel in their academic pursuits.
Oba Abolarin, who decried the high rate of corruption and poverty in the country, said youths, who he described as future leaders, must be ready to correct the situation.
The state Commissioner for Education, Mr Kolawole Omotunde-Young, commended the lawmaker for the initiative, saying government would always give the best to teachers.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that three best teachers and students in elementary, middle and high school bagged awards.
Miss Adeola Akanbi , a high school student, who emerged the best, was also given full scholarship to university level by the lawmaker.
The occasion was also used by the students and the lawmaker to pray and celebrate the birthday of the remaining Dapchi Schoolgirl still in Boko Haram captivity, Leah Sharibu, who clocked 15 years on Monday.
Olatunji, whose birthday coincided with that of the hostage, urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts at rescuing the girl. (NAN)
