Abuja, May 25, 2018 (NAN) The police, on Friday, arraigned a security guard, Paul Amadu, in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja for allegedly abandoning his duty post.
Amadu, a resident of Moses Street Utako, Abuja, was docked on one-count charge of negligent conduct.
The prosecutor, Mrs Okagha Ijeoma, told the court that one Francis Cyril of Golden Austoria Restaurant, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on May 15.
Ijeoma said the defendant was employed as security guard in the restaurant.
She said the defendant abandoned his duty post at the restaurant, which paved the way for burglars to gain access into the restaurant and stole his employer’s property.
The prosecutor said that the security guard was supposed to be on duty at the time the crime was committed.
Ijeoma said the thieves stole one Plasma Television, sound systems with speaker, microwave, standing fan, assorted wines including three bottles of Hero and two bottles of Heineken; all valued N207, 550.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation, all efforts to recover the stolen items proved abortive.
She said that the offence contravened Section 196 of the Penal Code.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000, with a surety in like sum and adjourned the matter until June 6 for hearing. (NAN)
