Cheating

Zaria (Kaduna State), June 8, 2017 (NAN) The ward head of Unguwar Mahuta in Tudun-Jukun, Zaria, Ado Mohammed has been re-arraigned before the Chediya Chief Magistrate Court, for criminal trespass and cheating.
The First Information Report filed by the police before the court indicated that one Shehu Gambo and Ya’u Gambo lodged a complain against the accused at the Sabongari police station.
The complainants had told the police that the accused had collected N400,000 compensation in respect of their farmland from the Kaduna State Government and converted the money to his personal use.
The compensation was in respect of houses and farmlands affected by the construction of Tukur Tukur-Tudun Jukun-PZ road.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Mannir Nasir said at the resumed hearing of the case that ward head was charged for criminal trespass, cheating, impersonation and criminal misappropriation.
The offences according to him, contravened sections 348, 322 and 324 of the penal code.
The prosecutor, however, sought for adjournment on the ground that two of their witnesses had traveled to Lagos.
He promised that the witnesses would be in court in the next sitting.
Counsel to the accused, Abdullahi Mohammed, however, urged the court to compel the prosecution to present names of all their witnesses, and for the trial to commence.
He recalled that as at the last adjourned date, the court had ordered the complainants to bring all their witnesses to facilitate accelerated hearing.
The Chief Magistrate, Auwal Aliyu adjourned the case till July 11, for definite commencement of hearing.
The magistrate directed the complainants to produce all their witnesses on the adjourned date.(NAN)
