Abuja, Jan. 13, 2017 (NAN) Malam Lawal Ado, the retiring Editor-In-Chief (EIC) of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has advised members of staff to work hard in order to propel the agency to greater heights.
Ado gave the advice on Friday in Abuja at a send-off party organised in his honour by staff of the Editorial Department of the agency.
He said the call became necessary in view of the achievements the agency had recorded in the media industry across the world.
Ado said that the members of staff could not afford to let the agency down in the pursuit of its mandate.
He said the new policy adopted by NAN management for reporters to send in their stories from assignment venues without having to come to the office was aimed at improving productivity.
The outgoing EIC , however, cautioned reporters against the abuse of the policy and called for commitment that would make the agency proud.
“We should always have at the back of our minds that we must work for the salaries we are being paid.
“My advice is for you to keep up the good work that will keep the agency running because we have gone far.
“Be rest assured that my doors will remain open for you at any time my attention is needed,” he said.
Ado , who asked for forgiveness from members of staff he may have offended in the cause of his duty , also commended the editorial staff for organising the event.
Some members of editorial staff who spoke during the event described the retiring EIC as a humble leader who believed in God in all his undertakings.
Mrs Nkechi Okoronkwo, the Managing Editor of Metro Desk of the agency,said Ado’s retirement called for celebration, having succeeded in getting to the very last day of his tenure in service.
“It is a day we see emotion flies but the fact that you made it to the last day is a testimony.
“We saw your struggle and acknowledged the fact that you were not able to accomplish all you wanted for us because of funding constraints.
“The most important thing is that you are honourably leaving us,” she said. (NAN)
