Nasarawa (Nasarawa State) Feb. 16, 2017 (NAN) Malam Mohammed Ja’afar-Ibrahim, representing Nasarawa/Toto at the Federal House of Representative has initiated a free skill acquisition programme for 400 youths and women in his constituency.
Ja’afar-Ibrahim told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State that the initiative was aimed at enabling the beneficiaries to be self-reliant.
He said that the two-week programme which began on Wednesday would provide training on various vocations that would also enable the beneficiaries to contribute to national development.
The lawmaker advised the beneficiaries to take advantage of the training to develop themselves and be agents of positive change.
“Unemployment is the cause of youth restiveness; hence, the need for the training. It is better to teach people how to fish than to give people fish to eat.
“I urge Nigerians not to wait for white collar jobs but to embrace skill acquisition.
“I am urging the youth to always engage in meaningful ventures and avoid negative acts in the interest of peace and national development,’’ the legislator said.
He advised the youth to embrace education, which he identified as the bedrock for every society.
“Knowledge is power and can take one to places,’’ he said.
The lawmaker urged Nigerians to be law-abiding, peaceful and tolerant in the interest of national unity and progress. (NAN)
