Algiers, Sept. 25, 2019 (Xinhua/NAN) Algeria’s coast guard units pulled out a dead body of an illegal migrant and rescued six others in an operation of the country’s western coastline, Algeria’s Defence Ministry said on Wednesday in a statement.
The rescue operation was carried out at 22 nautical miles north of the locality of Damous in Tipaza province, 70 kilometres western Algiers, where the engine of a boat carrying illegal migrants broke down.
The boat was probably attempting to reach European coasts, as a group of migrants were rescued alive.
One drowned body was pulled out while a search was underway for another missing migrant.
Meanwhile, coast guards in the northwestern localities of Ghazaouat, Oran and Mostaganem thwarted illegal migration attempts for 61 people.
Elsewhere, the statement added that counterterrorism troops on Tuesday carried out in an operation in the locality of Marouana, Batna province, 600 kilometres southeastern Algiers, destroyed nine terror bunkers containing six homemade bombs, as well as materials and equipment used in making of explosives.
