Scavenger bags 2 months imprisonment for shop breaking, theft

Abuja, Jan. 26, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced one Laminu Abdulrahman, a scavenger to two months imprisonment for joint act, shop breaking and theft.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N5, 000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crimes.
Sadiq said the punishment would serve as deterrent to other would be offenders.
The convict, of no fixed address was convicted on the two-count charge levelled against him.
Abdulrahman had prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, adding that he was lured into it due to hard times.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu told the court that one Lucy Garba of Jabi Daki Biyu, Abuja reported the matter at Jabi Police Station on Jan. 23.
Dalhatu said that on that same day, the convict and his friend who is now at large, broke into the complainant’s shop at Jabi Daki Biyu and stole 15 plastic chairs valued at N24, 000.
The prosecutor also said that during police investigation, the chairs were recovered from him.
She said the offence was punishable under Sections 79, 346 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
