Scavenger bags 2 months jail term for stealing cell phones

Abuja Feb. 14, 2017 (NAN) A Grade 1 Area Court, Karmo, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced one Sanusi Musa, 19, a scavenger, to two months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone.

The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, warned the convict to desist from committing crimes, adding that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others.

Musa, who resides at Ereke `partaker,’ Karmo, Abuja was convicted on a one-count charge levelled against him.

The convict prayed the court to temper justice with mercy ,that he was very hungry when he committed the offence.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court that one Awodimigbe Ayodele, of Idu Industrial Area, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on Feb. 11.

Auhioboh said that on the same date, the complainant parked his car at Karmo market area; another car broke his side mirror, which compelled him to come down.

The prosecutor said that the complainant had to come down from his car to push the car that broke his side mirror to avoid further damage.

She added that in the process the convict stole his two Nokia cell phones, all valued at N51, 000 and ran way, but he was chased and caught with the two phones.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, Musa confessed to the crime and the offence is punishable under Section 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
