Lagos, Aug. 12, 2017 (NAN) Some petty traders at the venue of the ongoing “2017 Seamaster International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Challenge Nigeria Open’’ in Lagos, say they are satisfied with spectators patronage.
The traders, food vendors, table tennis accessories and cell phone recharge cards among other items, expressed their views about business at the venue while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.
Funmi Amos, a food vendor, told NAN that sales had been okay and that she settled to rice because it was a Nigerian staple which most people usually preferred.
“My assistant and I have been here from Day 1 of this competition and we are making good sales because our food is hot, sweet, fresh and rich.
“Although we thought of adding other staples like “Eba’’ of Garri to have a wide variety, but we decided on rice because almost everybody eats rice, beans, plantain and meat or fish’’ she said.
In the same vein, Morayo Giwa-Odumbo, a recharge card dealer, told NAN that she had been making remarkable sales.
Giwa-Odumbo added that she was happy and praised the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) for hosting the championships in Lagos.
“The idea behind recharge card business is quick turn-over, which I am getting since I have been selling in this place.
“Nobody buys on credit here, it is usually on cash and carry basis, in fact, I really thank the federation,’’ she said.
Bose Oladipupo, who sells assorted snacks such as “gala’’, “chin-chin’’, biscuits and a variety of carbonated drinks, told NAN that sales had gone beyond her expectations.
“We are making good sales, but I still thank God because the people in charge of this stadium did not collect any fee for the space we are using,’’ she said.
Also, Mariam Olusesi, a sales representative of a sports equipment marketing outfit selling table tennis accessories, said she had been getting good patronage from participants, fans and officials at the championships.
Olusesi said that the items which included Joola products such as balls, bags, T-shirts, skirts and shorts, sucks, canvass and bats were being sold at affordable prizes.
She, however, added, “The sales are really encouraging though we realised that some already have the items and are not ready to buy, they just come and prize, only few buy.’’ (NAN)
