Security guard bolts with employer’s N655,000 goods

Lagos, Aug. 3, 2017 (NAN)  For allegedly stealing his employer’s goods worth N655, 000, a 25-year-old security guard, Vincent Anyaegbu, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Anyaegbu, a resident of Ojokoro on Lagos-Sango/Ota Expressway, is being tried for stealing.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, the accused committed the offence sometime in July at Abule-Egba, a Lagos suburb.

He said the accused stole assorted goods valued at N655,000, property of Mr Paul Dim, his employer.

“The accused stole 15,800 pieces of vintage big bottle, 800 pieces of vintage small bottle, 200 pieces of v-best bottle and 12,000 pieces of sunny peace bottle, all totalling N655,000.”

Awase said that during stock-taking, it was discovered that the accused, who was employed to guard the warehouse, had carted away the goods.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders.

The accused pleaded innocence of the offence and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate, Mr J.A Adigun said the sureties should be gainfully employed and also show evidence of two years tax
payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until Aug. 30 for mention. (NAN)
