Lagos, Feb. 27, 2018 (NAN) For stealing copper wire and aluminum windows valued at N886,000, a security guard, Jidda Oseni, has been sentenced to a six months’ imprisonment without an option of fine.
An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday slammed the sentence on Tuesday.
Oseni, 34, had pleaded guilty and begged for leniency, saying that he stole and sold the items to pay his medical bills.
Magistrate Bolanle Osunsanmi, who handed down the sentence, said: “Based on the facts of this case, confirmed in the report, and the plea of leniency, I hereby sentence you to six months’ imprisonment without an option of fine.’’
Earlier, prosecutor, Benson Emuerhi, told the court that Oseni was arraigned on a charge of stealing.
“The accused stole a set of aluminum windows and copper wire valued at N886,000.
“The accused, at the time of the incident, worked as a security guard for the complainant, Mr Taiwo Idemudia, and he sold the items kept in his custody.
“When confronted by the complainant, he admitted to have sold the items at a cheap rate.
“He was later taken to Isheri Police Station where he gave a voluntary statement and admitted committing the crime,”Emuerhi said.
He told the court that Oseni committed the offence in June 2017 at Plot 1, Block 29, Isheri GRA, Lagos.
According to the prosecution, the offence contravenes Section 286 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
