Dutse, Feb. 9, 2017 (NAN) The Jigawa Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it had inspected 168 commercial vehicles for compliance with the installation of the Speed Limiting Device (SLD).
The corps’ Sector Commander in the state, Mr Angus Ibezim, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Dutse.
NAN reports that FRSC began the nationwide enforcement of the installation of the device on commercial vehicles on Feb. 1.
Ibezim said that the vehicles were inspected from the commencement day to date.
He explained that only six of the inspected vehicles were found to have installed the device.
The sector commander further said 91 out of the vehicles found without the device were booked, adding that 51 drivers were warned and released.
Ibezim, who was not satisfied with the level of compliance in the state, told NAN that the corps would continue to collaborate with various transport unions and other relevant stakeholders, including religious and traditional rulers, to ensure compliance.
He added that those booked would pay the fine of N300, adding “we collect the particulars or drivers license of those who did not install the device, until when they do so.
“For those without particulars or drivers license, we impound their vehicles until when they buy the device and install it,” he said.(NAN)
