Lagos, July 19, 2017 (NAN) A sports administrator, Bolaji Yusuf, has advised parents and guardians to engage their wards in martial arts to enable them to master the art of self-defence.
Yusuf told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that it was necessary for parents to do so because of the dangers children were exposed to in the society.
“Two of my children are into Judo in their school and it has been of great benefit to them mentally and physically.
“Due to their participation in judo, I have developed more interest in the sport and strongly believe other parents should ensure that their wards take part in one martial art discipline.
“We are all aware of the dangers out there, knowing full well that we are not always with them the whole 24 hours of the day, they need defence techniques’’ he said.
Yusuf, who is also vying for the post of the South-West Representative on the board of the Nigeria Judo Federation, added that he would ensure the sport was introduced to schools in the zone if elected.
NAN reports that bye-elections into the disputed sports federations would hold on July 20 because their June 13 elections in Abuja were nullified.
The re-run elections will hold in Athletics, Gymnastics, Wrestling and Taekwondo federations because of petitions by candidates who were disgruntled with their disqualification in the June 13 elections. (NAN)
