3 men in court over alleged breach of peace in Ogun

Sango-Ota (Ogun), March 23, 2020 (NAN) The police on Monday arraigned three men in an Ota Magistrates’Court in Ogun over alleged breach of peace.

The defendants, Taofeek Salami, 34, Taiwo Salami, 55, and Hammed Shodunke, 27, whose addresses were not provided are facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and conspiracy.

The prosecutor, Insp. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendants and others still at large, committed the offences on March 14 at about 9.20 a.m. at Gas line area, Ijoko road, Ota.

Mustapha said that the defendants and their accomplices conspired to conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by smoking weed suspected to be Indian hemp.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 249(d) and 509 of the Criminal Code,Laws of Ogun,2006.

They, however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, granted each of the defendant N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Banwo said that the sureties must reside within the Court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

The case was adjourned until April 6 for trial. (NAN)

Sango-Ota (Ogun), March 16, 2020 (NAN) A 25-year-old man, Taofeek Oyekunle, on Monday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’Court in Ogun for allegedly assaulting a man with an axe.
Oyekunle, whose address was not provided, is facing a two- count charge of assault and conspiracy.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Titi Olatoye, told the court that the defendant and others still at large, committed the offences on Feb. 29 at about 9.00 p.m at Oloko area, Ota, Ogun state.
Olatoye said that the defendant assaulted the complainant, Ever Chukwu, with an axe on the head during a disagreement, causing him a permanent injury.
She said that the offences contravened Sections 351 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Vol.1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O.Obaleye, granted the defendant N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
The case was adjourned untill March 18, for trial.(NAN)

Sango-Ota(Ogun), Feb. 17, 2020 (NAN) A 43-year-old estate agent, Oluyide Akinyemi, on Monday appeared before an Ota Senior Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allegedly collecting N400,000 under false pretences.
Akinyemi, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Dec. 17, at about 11.45am at Sango-Ota, Ogun.
Mustapha said that the defendant collected N400,000 on pretext of assisting the complainant, Chidedum Nchege, to secure a two bedroom apartment.
He said that the defendant converted the money to personal use instead of getting the apartment for the complainant.
The prosecutor said the offences contravene Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Vol 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Matthew Akinyemi, granted the defendant N400,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Akinyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
He added that the sureties should provide means of identification as part of the bail conditions.
The case was adjourned until Feb. 26, for further hearing.
