Katsina Govt begins headcount of Almajiri pupils for feeding programme

Katsina, March 9, 2020 (NAN) The Katsina State Government has embarked on headcount of pupils at the Almajiri (Arabic) schools across the state to obtain accurate data needed for its planned special feeding programme.

The Chairman of Katsina Chapter of Maj’ma’u Durqis Sufiyya, Sheikh Abubakar Charanchi, disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina on Monday.

Charanchi explained that the feeding would cover only pupils that came from various villages in search of Qur’anic knowledge.

He said that government would also inculcate Western education with the Qu’anic education by teaching the pupils English Language and Arithmetic on Thursdays and Fridays.

The Chairman stated that the governor said that the programme would be sponsored with the support of the Federal Government and some Internal Donor Agencies.

The Islamic scholar said that the governor charged the organisation to enlighten parents on their responsibilities of ensuring the education and general welfare of their children.

He thanked the Gov. Aminu Masari for his support and cooperation as well as pledging to donate a piece of land for the establishment of Maj’ma’u Development Centre in the state. (NAN)

Katsina, Feb. 19, 2020 (NAN) Muhammad Kamis, the member representing Dutsinma Constituency in Katsina State House of Assembly, has called for the provision of portable water to his constituency.

Kamis who moved the motion at a plenary on Wednesday, called for the provision of potable water to the people of Karufawa, in Karufawa Ward of his constituency.

He lamented that the people of the area are suffering due to water shortage pointing out that the state government should provide facilities to enhance access to safe and clean water to the people.

The lawmaker noted that water is one of the basic necessities to human existence hence the need to provide portable water to the people.

Also, Nasiru Yahaya, member representing the Daura Constituency seconded the motion tabled by Kamis, adding that the motion was imperative in view of the siginificance of water to human lives and urged the House to adopt it.

The Speaker,  Alhaji Tasi’u Musa, said the House unanimously adopted the motion, noting that it would be transmitted to the executive for implementation. (NAN)
