Aisha Buhari commiserates with families of victims of Lagos building collapse

Abuja, March 15, 2019 (NAN) The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has commiserated with the families of victims of building collapse in Itafaji, Lagos.

Buhari, in a condolence message sent through her tweeter handle on Friday, prayed to God to grant the families the fortitude to bear the loss.

‘‘My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims, especially innocent children who died and some who are still trapped in the rubble of the collapsed building in Itafaji, Lagos.

‘‘I pray the state government and the rescue agencies are able to save more children,” she said. (NAN)

Abuja, March 8, 2019 (NAN) Wife of the President Aisha Buhari, has appealed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider more card-carrying members of the party for appointments into various political offices in the next dispensation.

Buhari via a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, by her Director of Information, Mr Suleiman Haruna, said that APC constitution specified that party members should be given preference in appointments.

She spoke in Daura after a dinner organised to celebrate the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The wife of the president advised that the party’s constitution should be respected.

She expressed gratitude to all Nigerians for coming out in their large numbers to vote for President Buhari and the APC.

 

She assured women and the youths who came out in their numbers to vote for President Buhari that government would do more to improve their lives.

“I wish to thank the women and youths of this country for the number of votes they gave President Buhari in the 2019 election, and to assure that he will continue to do his best to make Nigeria a better country,” she said.

Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, who also spoke, thanked the electorate for voting President Buhari whose integrity was tested over time.

Sirika assured the APC supporters that in the second term of President Buhari, Nigerians would witness unprecedented level of development in all spheres of endeavour.

He commended Mrs Buhari for her initiative of engaging women and youths during the presidential campaign, which resulted in the massive votes recorded.

The event, which took place at the Daura stadium, was attended by APC supporters across Katsina State. (NAN)

World Peace Day: Aisha Buhari canvasses justice, equity

Abuja, Sept. 21, 2018 (NAN) The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has canvassed for a society where justice and equity reigns as the world marked 70th anniversary of UN Peace Day.
She made the appeal on Friday in Abuja at the 2018 UN Peace Day celebration organised by the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR).
She was represented by a former Minister of State for Science and Technology, Mrs Pauline Tallen.
She described this year’s theme, “The Right to Peace – The Universal Declaration of Human Right at 70’’, as apt in the light of the Sustainable Development Goal 16 on peace, justice and strong institutions.
According to her, peace is only possible when there is equal access to justice.
“’Peace is feasible only when we promote peace and inclusive societies for sustainable development, providing access to justice for all and building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels,” she said.
The UNESCO Regional Director, Ydo Yao, who represented the Director-General of UNESCO, Audray Azoulay, noted that peace would remain elusive as long as cases of human rights violations still persist.
“There will be no peace on this planet as long as human rights are violated somewhere in the world.”
Axoulay explained that on this International Day of Peace, the words of René Cassin, one of the architects of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, remind us that “peace will remain an unattainable ideal as long as fundamental human rights are not respected’’.
She said that respect for the fundamental human rights was a prerequisite for a peaceful society, in which everyone can fully enjoy equal and inalienable rights.
“Peace is imperfect and fragile unless everyone benefits from it; human rights are either universal or they are not.
“This intrinsic link between peace and respect for human rights is the theme of this year’s International Day of Peace, as this year we celebrate the seventieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
“The ideals of peace and universal rights are challenged and violated on a daily basis,” she said.
The Royal Father of the Day, Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman, the Emir of Bade, Yobe State, said there was need for a role for traditional institutions in enthroning lasting peace in the country.
“I appeal to the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) and her partners to consider the role of the traditional rulers as consequential to the recovery of peace and sustainable rulers in the country on conflict resolution.
“On daily basis we resolve many conflicts in our respective domains to ensure orderliness.
“I therefore urge the Federal Government to provide IPCR funds for the training of royal father’s in mediation and conflict resolution.
“We shall do our best as royal father’s to ensure peaceful coexistence among the people of the country,” he said.
The Acting Director-General of IPCR, Dr Bakut Bakut, had earlier said the institute had in pursuance of peace in Nigeria and beyond, established National Peace Academy, with the hope to produce peace advocates throughout the country.
Bakut said that the importance of peace in any given society could not be overemphasised, noting this underscored the fact that peace is necessary condition for any development to take place.
He called on political leaders and their followers to pursue peace at all cost as the nation moved closer to 2019 elections. (NAN)

Abeokuta, Feb. 7, 2018 (NAN) Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, says everybody must take responsibility and strategic action towards addressing high maternal and child mortality in the country.
Mrs Buhari made the appeal in Abeokuta at three-day training workshop for the South West region in Abeokuta, Ogun.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the workshop was based on reproductive Maternal Newborn Child Adolescence Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N).
Represented by Mrs Gimbiya Dogara, the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Buhari said people at the workshop had the potentials to influence the indices and change the trajectory for good.
According to her, deaths do not happen at the Presidential Villa alone but in all the states of the country and thus the need for all hands to be on deck.
She said strategic actions must be regional based because the uniqueness and peculiarity of each population cannot be left out.
“I wouldn’t bore you with the disheartening statistics of maternal and child mortality or the huge cost of malnutrition in Nigeria.
“I know that this room is occupied with knowledgeable individuals and key stakeholders who have the capacity to influence the indices and change our trajectory for good.
“It is however important to note these deaths happen in the states that constitutes Nigeria, not just at the Presidential Villa.
“And except every one of us takes responsibility and strategic action towards addressing these issues in our immediate regions, they may remain unchanged and even grow worse.
“We cannot also leave out the uniqueness and peculiarity of each population that’s is why we’ve chosen to come down to the zones where we can find more common grounds to address maternal and child mortality,” she said.
NAN recalls that the wife of the president had on Oct. 9, 2017, launched the Governors Wives Advocacy Coalition in Abuja.
NAN also reports that Mrs Buhari established the coalition with promise to support the states activities by carrying out capacity building workshops with the Governor’s wife as the Chief Advocate and other technical officers.
The wives of the governors of the South Western states and other stakeholders were present at the event which would end on Thursday.
Participants are expected to take part in technical sessions throughout the workshop. (NAN)
