ABU V-C bags ANSEN Fellowship

Zaria (Kaduna State), March 6, 2023 (NAN) The Academy of Natural Science and Engineering in Nigeria (ANSEN) has approved the nomination of the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Prof. Kabiru Bala, for the Fellowship (FANSE) award.

A statement issued by Malam Auwalu Umar, the Director, Public Affairs Directorate of the university on Monday in Zaria, said the Academy’s Interim President, Prof. Danladi Matawale, conveyed the approval in a letter to the vice-chancellor.

Umar quoted Matawale as saying that the approval for the fellowship to the vice-chancellor issue on the vice-chancellor’s distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.

The ANSEN Interim President said: “Prof. Bala’s nomination and approval for the Fellowship award followed ‘a very careful consideration and scrutiny’ of his excellent track records.”

Matawale said the Fellowship was considered to be one of the highest national honours that an applied scientist or engineer may receive.

He added that the fellowship must not be considered as a mere award or trophy, as every person admitted to the fellowship subscribes to an obligation of promoting the charitable aims of the Academy.

He noted that the Academy is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation.

He said part of the academy’s philosophy was accelerating the advancement of science at the practices of professions for the benefit of the public.

Umar said Bala is a professor of Construction Management.

He added that as a professor, he has attracted research grants from a variety of funding sources, and donations to ABU, and facilitated several collaborations with local and international institutions.

According to him, the vice-chancellor is a member of several national and international professional organisations, including the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) and the Society of Construction Industry Arbitrators (SCIArb), among others. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
