Abuja, June 15, 2019 (NAN) The All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Aspirants Forum has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his successful Democracy Day celebration which followed his inauguration for a second term in office.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the APC Women had embarked on a 21-day fasting and prayer on May 25 to seek God’s intervention against any obstacle that could hinder the President’s Democracy Day celebration and smooth takeoff of his second term.

The National Leader of the forum, Mrs Adedoyin Eshanumi, who led other women aspirants to a thanksgiving prayer on Friday on behalf of the president, noted that God answered their prayers by ensuring that both events were hitch-free.

Eshanumi, who used the occasion of the thanksgiving to seek God’s protection for President Buhari, as he pilots the affairs of the nation for another four years, pleaded for the inclusion of more women to facilitate nation building.

“We pray God to give our dear president the good health, strength and wisdom needed to lead the country to the next level.

“We are about 360 women that contested for different elective positions but only 0.1 per cent scaled through.

“Our dear president promised to include us in his government to show us love the way we have supported him through our votes and prayers and we promise not to let him down, especially as the anti-corruption crusade intensifies,” Eshanumi said.

Mrs Omorede Osifo-Marshal, a former commissioner for Youths and Sports in Edo, who aspired to represent Oredo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said Nigerian women needed 50 per cent of the available appointments in President Buhari’s cabinet.

“We want women ministers, special advisers, board chairmen; we want state governors to make women commissioners and all of that.

“We don’t want the lowest positions; we are women aspirants and we worked very hard to represent our people but at the end of the day, it didn’t work out, some of us were denied our tickets.

“I believe that as a man of integrity, our president will keep his words, not just to the women of Nigeria but to the women aspirants because we have worked for the success of our party,” Osifo-Marshal said.

Mrs Ann Agom-Eze, Senatorial aspirant in Ebonyi South, who also spoke at the event pleaded with the president to give the APC Women Aspirants choice appointments to position them for 2023 election.

“The states that have never produced a Minister should be seriously considered for Ministerial appointments and heads of parastatals. Other women that have the experience should also be included to serve,” she said.

Another aspirant Princess Nkem Igwe, who aspired for the party’s ticket for Ebonyi State House of Assembly, urged the president to carry more women along in his government.

“We have been so marginalised by the men in most of the contests but I thank God almighty for bringing President Buhari back for a second term in office,” she said. (NAN)

Abuja, May 26, 2019 (NAN) Women Aspirants Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has begun 21 days fasting and prayer to help usher in President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term in office.

National Leader of the forum Mrs Adedoyin Eshanumi told newsmen in Abuja on Sunday that the fasting and prayer was to facilitate the removal of any obstacle that could hinder the President’s second term inauguration on May 29 in Abuja.

Eshanumi also said that the fasting and prayer was to make God to grant the President the good health, strength, and wisdom needed to lead the country to the next level.

“It is indeed a difficult task that our President has taken the bold step toward freeing this country of corruption.

“We APC women have vowed to be with him at all times in the quest for a Nigeria of his dream.

“We also want to use this medium to urge and plead with the President to implement his promise that women will form a larger portion of his administration when he is sworn in for a second term.

“Elections have come and gone and we are moving forward.

“We are holding Mr President to his words after he promised us at the banquet hall that he will ensure that a larger per cent of women work with him in his second term,” Eshanumi said.

She urged Nigerian women irrespective of their party affiliations to join in the fasting and prayer for God to grant the President the wisdom to lead.

Mrs Ann Agom-Eze, senatorial aspirant in Ebonyi South urged the Buhari to ensure that women got at least 35 per cent of appointments in his second term.

Agom-Ever said that doing so would make women relevant in the pursuit of a better Nigeria.

“We have been talking about marginalisation of the women and all we are now asking for is to remain relevant in the scheme of things after doing so much to see that Mr President is reelected.

“When women are carried along in governance, a lot of things work especially as it concerns dealing with security challenges in our country.

“I believe that when women are carried along as mothers, things work out for the better,” she said.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the forum is a gathering of all female political aspirants who contested different elective positions on APC’s platform either during the primaries or the general election but failed to scale through.  (NAN)

Abuja, April 3, 2019 (NAN) The All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Aspirants Forum has demanded key appointments as President Muhammadu Buhari plans to form new cabinet after May 29.

Leader of the group, Mrs Adedoyin Eshanumi, told newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday that the demand became necessary after the men took more than 90 per cent of political positions in the party.

Eshanumi, a Senatorial aspirant in Kogi State, said the only way to compensate the women was for President Buhari to give them political appointments for their efforts which ensured the party’s victory in the 2019 presidential election.

Mrs Ann Agom-Eze, Co-Convener, said that the meeting was convened to evaluate the outcome of the just concluded 2019 general election and the position of women in the present administration.

Agom-Eze, also a Senatorial aspirant for Ebonyi South, said time had come for women to take what belonged to them.

“We have to convene this meeting because we are the APC female aspirants who were lobbied out of the primaries; the men made up their minds that they will not give us a space in the governance of this country.

“I am someone who stands up for the women; so, I believe that women should be part of the appointments to be made soon by Mr President.

“We should be recognised and empowered to enable the APC women to stand firm come 2023.

“Since election is over, we should be given appointments and we don’t want a situation where people will tell us to go to women commission.

“We can be Ministers; we want to head organisations because it will position women for 2023.

“We no longer want to rely on men because power is not given, you have to take it,” she said.

According to Agom-Eze, the 9th National Assembly (NASS) should enact laws that will protect female politicians from the “bullying” nature of their male counterparts.

She added: “NASS should be able to come out with a law for representation on quota basis; for example, if we have three senators from a state, one should be a woman.

“For the House of Reps, we should have at least two principal officers and for the State House of Assembly, we should have at least 35 per cent.

“It is not fair that in a whole NASS we have just few women; our representation is depreciating day-by-day and that is not good for the country, and that is why we are here.

Enugu State Deputy Governorship aspirant, Mrs Ginika Tor-Williams, also urged all APC female aspirants to forget the grievances and come together and start early to plan for the 2023 election.

Tor-Williams said: “The best thing is to begin to bring everybody together and let us forget our grievances; I believe there must be a solution for equitable representation of women in this government.

“However, it doesn’t augur well when you foist leaders on people rather than allowing them to choose who they want, and I tell you that it is a big problem in Nigeria; but I hope we have learnt our lessons.

“I believe we will build a formidable team in 2023 because our major problem in Enugu was factionalisation and at some point our followers became tired and frustrated.(NAN)
