Atiku’s daughter describes tenure under APC as memorable

Yola, May 30, 2019 (NAN) Dr Fatima Atiku, the daughter of Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has described her tenure as Adamawa Commissioner for Health under immediate past Gov. Muhammadu Bindow as memorable.
Atiku was one of the technocrats Bindow appointed to help his administration transform the health sector of Adamawa.
She told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Yola that her tenure brought about the formulation of Adamawa Health Policy, Health Insurance Scheme, Cancer Registry for the control of cancer scourge, among other initiatives.
“The four years was full of experiences and quite memorable; it was my first time of occupying public office and I learnt a lot of things through my interaction with a lot of people and organisations.
“I feel very fulfilled that I was given a chance and my impact was felt by the people of Adamawa,” the ex-commissioner said.
Atiku, who dedicated her salaries for the four years she served to support some health programmes in the state, said she might not reject Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri’s invitation to serve in his government, if extended.
“It is something I have to think about; if not for anything but for the interest of the public,” she said.
NAN reports that while Atiku stayed back, some serving commissioners left Bindow’s government when her father defected from APC to PDP and emerged as its presidential candidate.
But Atiku, who attracted many interventions from health organisations and international donors to the state health sector, explained that she was not a politician.
She fielded questions on backdrop of scrambles and intrigues by interested persons, including politically exposed individuals, angling to be appointed as health commissioner by Fintiri. (NAN)

Atiku wins all voting points at Unit 007 Pyakasa in FCT

Abuja, Feb. 24, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won in the eight voting points at Unit 007 Pyakas, Lugbe, FCT

Mr Sadiqu Abdulrazak, the Presiding Officer for the unit, said Abubakar scored 1,205 votes while President Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) got 173 votes.

Abdulrazak also announced that the Senatorial candidate for PDP got 913 votes while APC got 444 votes.

For House of Representatives, the candidate for PDP won with 1,102 votes while APC candidate scored a total of 240 votes.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that sorting and counting of votes at polling unit 007 Pyakasa lasted till 4.30 a.m on Sunday.

Reacting, the SDP agent, Mr Haruna Dauda, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the process, stating that every thing was transparent.

Mr Joshua Shawula, the PDP agent, also noted that INEC staff were fair and the election at the unit was free and fair. (NAN)

Abuja, Dec. 12, 2018 (NAN) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate, has signed the Peace Accord.
The former Vice President signed the Peace Accord at the Kukah Centre on Wednesday in Abuja.
Atiku used the occassion to appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to sign into law the Electoral Act Amendment Bill ahead of the 2019 general election.
The PDP presidential candidate had earlier said that he could not make it to the signing of the document by the presidential candidates of other political parties on Tuesday because he did not get an invitation for the event.
He, however, expressed delight that Buhari agreed to sign the peace accord alongside other presidential candidates.
“I am delighted that the President has agreed to sign this peace accord, but we want to appeal to him to also sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.
“Mr President needs to understand that as long as he refuses to sign this Bill, we will have doubt that this government is truly committed to a true, fair and credible election,” he said.
Atiku maintained that he was not a converted democrat but a real democrat from the beginning who alongside other leaders fought the military to return this country to democracy.
However, he said that the best way to guarantee peace in any election or human interaction was to ensure manifest justice to all concerned.
Earlier, Alhaji Abdusalami Abubakar, former Head of State and Chairman, National Peace Committee, apologised for not having the PDP presidential candidate at the signing of the peace accord held on Tuesday.
He said the news that the PDP boycotted the signing of the accord was completely wrong.
“I must apologies for the omission or commission, that the PDP was not able to attend that ceremony.
“The news that PDP boycotted the signing of the accord yesterday is completely wrong. I spoke to the presidential candidate and the party officials.
“It was not only the PDP that was not there yesterday, one or two parties were also not there,’’ he said.
He stressed that everybody involved in the project cared for peace and wants a peaceful election in 2019.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the political parties and their presidential candidates, especially, are to commit to issue-based campaigns and to avoid hate speech.
According to the peace accord, they are also to publicly speak against provocative utterances and oppose all acts of electoral violence.
They are also expected to support all government institutions including INEC and the security agencies to act and be seen to act with impartiality. (NAN)

Yola, July 20, 2018 (NAN) Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described late Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie, as a disciplined and upright police chief whose tenure witnessed an outstanding time in the history of the Nigeria Police Force.
Atiku, in a condolence message by his media aide, Mr Paul Ibe, said that he and the late Coomassie shared a special bond that he (Atiku) would personally miss.
“Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie and I had a special bond of friendship. He shall be sorely missed,” Atiku said.
According to him, Coomassie was a patriot and an exceptional police officer whose dream was always about making the Nigeria Police Force an effective and efficient police force.
“My condolences go to his family and others in our cycle of friendships. I pray that God accepts his good deeds and forgive his shortcomings,” the former vice president said. (NAN)

Abuja, Aug. 28, 2017 (NAN) Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has donated hospital equipment to boost healthcare services in Adamawa.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Fatima Abubakar, said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
Abubakar explained that the former vice president made the donation to boost health care facilities as well as to support hospital expansion scheme embarked on by Gov. Mohammed Bindow.
She said the equipment consist GE Brivo, X-Ray machine and ultrasound equipment for medical investigation and diagnosis.
“The donation given by Wazirin Adamawa has already boosted facilities at Jada General Hospital for effective patient care.
“In addition to that, he also equipped the medical laboratory with state of the art equipment for disease diagnosis and also provided alternative power supply, solar system in the laboratory,” she said.
According to her, before this support from Abubakar, the state government had commenced facilities expansion scheme and the initiative is geared towards accelerating citizens’ access to robust and sustained healthcare delivery across the state.
The commissioner disclosed that the state government had also flagged-off rehabilitation and reconstruction at Numan and Mubi general hospitals.
She said that the government also upgraded facilities in Jada General Hospital and the present administration of Bindow was now collaborating with the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, for capacity support and advisory interventions in some of the hospitals in the state.
“The state government is currently working on site preparations at Jada General Hospital for the installation of the digital X-Ray equipment.
“This upgrading of facilities in the state will considerably improve medical services for our people and this development is one of the cardinal campaign objectives of the present administration,” she said. (NAN)
