Unity: Bishop advocates inter-religious harmony

Zaria (Kaduna State), Dec. 25, 2017 (NAN) Most Rev. Ali Buba-Lamido, the Bishop of Wusasa Anglican Diocese, Kaduna State, on Monday advocated for inter-religious harmony to promote national unity.

He said this in a Christmas message shortly after a Christmas Church Service held at Wusasa, Zaria.

The clergy observed that no country would record meaningful development in a chaotic atmosphere, hence the need for all to tolerate, accommodate, respect and embrace one another.

“We thank God Almighty that He has given us religions in Nigeria, but above all, let us practice our religions in truth and in honesty.

“While we do that, we should also learn to co-exist peacefully with other faiths. In Nigeria, we have Muslims, we have Christians and African traditional believers.

“Therefore, everybody is important, we must follow the tenets of our religions, love one another, live in peace, let us remember that without peace we can’t even practice our religion well,” he said.

On Christmas, Buba-Lamido said it was a period for sober reflection, showing love to one another and peace.

He admonished Christians to promote peace at all times, saying that failure to do so signifies rejection of Jesus Christ.

The Anglican Bishop advised the Federal Government to revitalise moribund industries and establish more to curb unemployment in the country.

“This is one of the best ways to solve both economic and security challenges bedeviling Nigeria, this is because our youth will be engaged.

“Those who cannot be employed as civil servants due to paper qualification, government should give them skills acquisition training.

“Others can be encouraged to engage in commercial farming activities and government should also endeavor to give others take-off capital to start businesses,” he said. (NAN)

Calabar, Dec. 25, 2017 (NAN) Bishop Emmah Isong, General Overseer of Christian Central Chapel International Calabar (CCCIC), has predicted that Nigeria would be great in the years ahead.

He said this on Monday while delivering his Christmas message at his World Worship Center in Calabar.

Isong urged the Federal and State Governments to privatise critical infrastructures for better service delivery, adding this is the only way to move the economy forward.

“There is no need for Nigerians to panic because of the present situation; there is hope for a brighter future.

“However, there is need for governments to hands off some critical infrastructures in the country and give them to competent private sector organisations for better service delivery.

“This will go a great length to solving the problems of infrastructural decay in the country,” he said.

According to him, government should concern itself with the making of policies that would regulate activities of private investors.

“I think government should be more involved in creating enabling environment for investors rather than trying to manage lot of things,” he said.

He said that in spite repeated assurances by government and its agencies that the economy was improving, the impact was yet to be felt by average citizens.

“If the Nigerian economy is improving in line with reports from the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NGS), then Nigerians should start having that feeling in their living standard.

“The change is yet to really reach the grassroots, majority of Nigerians are still far from feeling the impact,” he said.

He also called on Christians to continue to pray for the country and to always show love to one another as exemplified by Jesus Christ.

Isong also called on political leaders at all levels to always have the fear of God and the interest of the people at heart.(NAN)

Bishop urges “thorough job” on Lawal, Oke

Minna, April 21, 2017( NAN) Bishop Martins Uzuokwu of Minna Catholic Diocese has advised the three-man team investigating allegations against Mr David Lawal, the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), to “ensure a thorough job”.

The committee is also investigating the equally suspended Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mr Ayo Oke.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two officials were suspended on April 19, via a statement signed by Mr Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.

The statement had indicated that Lawal had questions to answer in respect of the award of some contracts being executed under the Presidential Initiative in the North-East.

Oke is also expected to offer more explanations over the ownership of monies found at a residential apartment at Osborne Towers in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The three-man committee comprised of Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno.

The committee has 14 days to submit its report.

The Bishop, who reacted to the development in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Minna, urged the committee to be “very thorough and meticulous”, and stressed the need for fairing hearing

Stressing that Nigerians were patiently waiting for the outcome of the committee’s findings, Ozuokwu urged members of the public to volunteer any information that could help the committee in its assignment.

He advised Nigerians to support the fight for a better society, and particularly emphasized the need for everyone to be a whistle-blower so as to rid the country of corrupt tendencies.

“Clearly, a lot of leaders have looted the nation’s treasuries; it is our duty to expose them,” he said. (NAN)

Use Easter period to seek God’s intervention toward a better Nigeria – Bishop

Minna, April 14, 2017 (NAN) Bishop Martins Uzuokwu of Minna Catholic Diocese on Friday called on Nigerians to use the Easter period to seek God’s intervention toward tackling obstacles on the path to progress and prosperity.

Uzuokwu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna that Nigerians should particularly pray for God’s intervention in the nation’s economy, security and corrupt tendencies by those in power.

“We must seek divine intervention to pull Nigeria out of its economic recession.

“We must also seek divine intervention toward ending security issues that have discouraged some investors from patronising Nigeria and even made it impossible for farmers to go to the fields,” he said.

He called on the Federal Government to provide a conducive environment that would attract investors, noting that the nation was blessed with abundant human and natural resources that were wasting away.

The Bishop also urged government to introduce policies that would promote modern farming so as to improve food production, feed the nation and even export.

He advised Nigerians to support the efforts toward tackling corruption so as to conserve resources to improve the welfare of the masses. (NAN)
