Abuja, May 15, 2017 (NAN) Mr Muhuyi Magaji, the Chairman, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, says the agency has achieved 80 per cent success into the investigation of alleged misapplication of N6 billion by the Kano Emirate Council.

Magaji told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja that the commission has also recorded a “water tight case against the emirate council’’ over the allegations of financial misappropriation.

“We have also identified our primary suspect in the course of the investigation,’’ he said, but declined to name the suspect.

However, he said that the commission suspended the probe to avoid a “crisis of concurrent investigation with the state House of Assembly and possible litigation by interested parties’’.

The chairman explained that the state legislature has taken over the case by constituting an eight-man committee to conduct a similar probe when the commission was on top of the situation.

According to him, Section 16 of the law establishing the commission barred it from conducting further investigation into any matter pending before the state House of Assembly and the courts.

Magaji cited the case of Rabiu Salisu and others before the Federal Court of Appeal in suit No: K/37/2016, and suit No: K/M/728/2015, involving Rabiu Ibrahim & Co financial institutions Vs the anti-graft agency to buttress the need for the suspension.

He added that the commission had found out that “all the monies allegedly spent were not appropriated for contrary to the Kano State Emirate Council Law 2004’’.

The law required the council to prepare annual budgets and submit same for appropriation by the legislature.

“But our findings from the Ministry of Budget and Planning confirmed that the Emirate Council has an annual overhead of N15 million and no capital allocation even under Emir Sanusi,’’ said the chairman.

Meanwhile, he said that the commission had written the House of Assembly on the matter and would stay further action pending the response of the legislature.

He, therefore, urged the public to appreciate the legal and extraneous constraints of the commission in suspending investigation into the alleged financial irregularities committed by the emirate council. (NAN)

Kano, May 4, 2017 (NAN)‎ Dr Maitama Sule, former Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has called on Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s war against corruption.‎

Sule made the call on Thursday during the unveiling of NIPOST Anti-Corruption stamps at the Coronation Hall, Kano.‎‎

He ‎said that the anti-graft crusade launched by the present administration should be seen as a collective aspiration by all Nigerians and not necessarily Buhari’s individual struggle.

“The fight against corruption is a collective one. We are grateful to have a courageous president who said enough is enough,” Sule noted.‎

The one-time UN envoy expressed the hope that the Buhari administration would change Nigeria’s battered image abroad and curb corruption.‎‎

He also ‎expressed confidence in Buhari’s administration to improve the fortunes of Nigeria.

The elder statesman‎ commended NIPOST for undertaking the task to create more awareness in the anti-corruption crusade.

‎He also urged leaders at all levels of government to make sacrifice and work in one accord to turn around the economic fortunes of the country. (NAN)

Kano, May 2, 2017 (NAN) The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission says the EFCC is not involved in the ongoing investigation of the Kano Emirate Council over alleged misappropriation of N6 billion.

The Chairman of the commission, Mr Muhiyi Magaji, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday that the speculations in the social media over the involvement of EFCC operatives were false and an attempt to distract the probe.

The reports alleged that EFCC operatives jumped fence into the Emir Muhammdu Sanusi’s building in the Palace and carted away some documents.

Reacting to the development, Magaji said the rumour was not only baseless, but unfounded and a deliberate attempt to cause confusion in the state.

“Yes, I met with the EFCC Chairman, Mr Ibrahim Magu, last week, but it was on the general activities of the commission as well as its success or achievements.

“We have not handed over this case to EFCC, so how can their operatives storm the Emir’s Palace and locked some offices as being peddled.

“Any contrary information on my meeting with the EFCC chairman is not only baseless but untrue and unfounded, so people should disregard it,” Magaji said.

On the recent reconciliation meeting convened by some northern state governors to intervene in the Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje and Sanusi’s feud, the anti-graft boss said the commission had no business with the meeting.

“The state government did not ask us to do what we are doing and did not also ask us to stop.

“The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission Law 2008 (as amended) provides for the independence of the commission.

“In exercising its powers under the law, the commission shall not be subjected to the direction and control of any authority.

“As such the commission is only attached to the government to address administrative issues but not operational.

“So we are acting on the petition and any other thing is secondary to the commission,’’ he said.

Magaji said the commission would go ahead with the investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds by the emirate council.

He disclosed that all those invited had indicated their willingness to honour the invitation on Wednesday (May 3), and not Tuesday (May 2) as being speculated.

“Initially we gave all those invited to appear before the commission on May 3 not May 2.

“Some have indicated their willingness to appear on the stated date,’’ said the chairman.

NAN also reports that normal activities were still going on at the commission contrary to rumours in some quarters that there was uneasy calm. (NAN) MTM/MST

Bida(Niger) Rev. Canon Samuel Kaburuk of Cathedral Church of St. John, Bida in Niger, on Friday advised Nigerians to support the Federal Government’s efforts to rid the nation of corrupt tendencies.

Kaburuk gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bida.

He regretted the destruction by the menace over the years, and described the current efforts to eliminate it as “very commendable”.

“Corruption and its negative tendency to `get-rich-quick’ has practically brought Nigeria to its knees. We must all come together to kill it before it kills us a nation,” he said.

Kaburuk regretted that Nigeria had remained stagnant over the years, and challenged its nationals to work toward a nation they would be happy and proud to bequeath to future generations.

He called on Nigerians to join the prayers for the recovery of President Mohammadu Buhari, and advised that political and religious differences should not be barriers to the quest for divine intervention.

“Our Diocese has continued to offer special prayers for God to intervene on the two fronts – the president’s health and the economic recession; we should all be doing that,” he said. (NAN)

Ringim (Jigawa), Jan. 8, 2017 (NAN) Rep. Muhammad Gausu (APC-Ringim/Taura) in Jigawa says Federal Civil Servants are more corrupt than members of the National Assembly.

Gausu said this while speaking with newsmen on Sunday in Ringim.

“You see, people talk about us because we are elected, but the thieves are in the ministries.

“Directors insert billions of Naira because they are the ones that give contracts and they are the ones that the contractors see.

“Let me give you an example. I was in a committee on Niger Delta. There was a single contract with 20 different names and codes.

“And the consultancy fee for that particular contract was N1.2 billion. So who is responsible for all this, is it lawmakers or civil servants.

“So Nigerians must understand that this is what we are there to stop not encourage or be party to,” Gausu said.

He urged Nigerians to sustain their support for the APC in all upcoming elections.

The lawmaker assured that the present economic hardship would be a blessing for the country as President Muhammadu Buhari’s team was ready to tackle the situation.

“All those accusing APC for the current hardship in Nigeria are either looters, their collaborators or those benefiting from the loots.

“Nigerians are still aware of the wrongs of PDP, those thinking that APC put them in hardship is not true, and PDP is no more,” he said. (NAN)
