Curfew

By Ibrahim Kado

Yola, June 9, 2022  (NAN)  Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has imposed curfew in parts of Lamurde and Guyuk Local Government Areas (LGAs) following renewed communal clashes.

Fintiri disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday evening in Yola by Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, his Press Secretary.

According to the statement, the curfew will last between 5 p.m. and 6 a.m. until it is reviewed.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the clash erupted on Monday morning but the deployment of security personnel has brought relative peace to the area.

“Following renewed clashes in parts of two Local Government Areas of Lamurde and Guyuk in the Southern Adamawa, the State Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri has imposed a curfew on the towns of Lafiya and Boshikiri,  as well as the surrounding villages of Mumseri, Mere, Kupte and Zakawon with immediate effect.

“The government is disturbed by the recurring communal clashes.

“Criminals are challenging the government’s resolve and we are going to pursue them to the farthest end possible.

“We have exhausted all the means to arrest the situation in that area. It now requires a whole new approach because we have been left with no option,” the statement said.

Fintiri said that government was concerned about the persisting tensions and reported attempts by some people to take the laws into their hands by attacking individuals and private facilities, as well as public property.

“All citizens are, therefore, directed to abide by the directive to enable security personnel to maintain law and order in the affected areas and deal with those attempting to foment trouble by taking advantage of the situation to perpetrate crimes“, the statement quoted the governor as saying.

Fintiri, while calling for calm, expressed sympathy with the families of those affected by the crisis. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Insecurity: Gov. Fintiri reviews curfew to allow Ramadan lectures

Insecurity: Gov. Fintiri reviews curfew to allow Ramadan lectures

Curfew
By Ibrahim Kado
Yola, April 6, 2022 (NAN) Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has reviewed the curfew imposed on Yola North, Yola South and Girei Local Councils.

Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, Press Secretary to the governor, made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday in Yola.

The curfew was earlier imposed, as result of continued activities of hoodlums and other miscreants using tricycles and motorcycles to terrorise residents.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that state government had in February 2021 imposed a night curfew on the affected Councils through the Adamawa State Restriction of Movement of Tricycles/Motorcycles Executive Order No.1 of 2021.

The restriction order had also prescribed a sentence of six months imprisonment, with an option of fine, or both, in addition to forfeiting tricycles or motorcycles caught in the act.

But according to the Wednesday’s statement, the curfew, which was from 10pm to 5am, is now to begin from 11pm to 5am daily during the period of Ramadan Fasting, adding that the review was immediate.

“The development is to enable the Muslim faithful to partake in tafsir sessions during the period,” he said.

“Gov. Fintiri, however, directed security agencies to beef up security across the State, especially in the three councils of Yola North, Yola South and Girei, by deploying more service personnel to keep watch.

“They are also to ensure the security of lives and property of residents of the state,” the statement said.

He warned that anyone found wanting during the period would be made to face the wrath of the law.

“The governor added that Security agencies will continue to discharge their duties and residents are urged to cooperate with them to maintain the status of Adamawa State as one of the most peaceful,” he said.

Wonosikou said that the governor urged residents to maintain the hard earned peace restored by the administration in the State.

He appealed to residents not to encourage any action that might turn back the clock, but to keep living in harmony and strengthen the unity and peaceful co-existence the people were known for. (NAN) www.nannews.ng

Philippines lifts curfew in capital amid lower COVID-19 cases

Philippines lifts curfew in capital amid lower COVID-19 cases

Curfew

Manila, Nov. 4, 2021 (dpa/ NAN) The Philippine government lifted a curfew imposed in the capital more than one year ago as part of coronavirus restrictions amid lower COVID-19 cases in the country.

Benjamin Abalos Jr, chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, said on Thursday.

He said the lifting of the curfew would allow malls and other commercial establishments to extend operating hours ahead of the Christmas holidays.

According to him, the longer hours would help avoid overcrowding and traffic as more people go out of their homes amid less restrictions.

“We need to anticipate possible superspread events, the mayors in Metro Manila have spoken to commercial establishments to extend their operating hours so that people do not crowd inside,” Abalos said.

He stressed that while the coronavirus-related curfew was already lifted, curfews imposed by some local governments on minors were still in effect.

The Philippine government imposed a nine-hour night curfew in Metro Manila in March 2020 at the start of the coronavirus lockdown in the country.

The curfew hours were later shortened as restrictions eased.

The last curfew was just four hours from 12 midnight to 4 am.

The Philippines’ total COVID-19 caseload was at more than 2.79 million on Wednesday, when the Department of Health reported a nine-month low in daily confirmed cases and the death toll was at 43,586.

Health authorities said the number of cases was also declining as more people received vaccinations against the virus.

As of Nov. 3, more than 28.19 million people or over 25 per cent of the country’s total population have been fully vaccinated, the department said. (dpa/ NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

Mai Tangale: Group appeals to Gombe govt. to lift curfew imposed on Biliri LG

By Polycarp Auta

Jos, June 18, 2021 (NAN) The Tangale Community Development Association (TCDA), has advised the Gombe State Government to lift the curfew imposed on Biliri Local Government Area of the state.

Dr. Daniel Maddo, a trustee of the association, made the call at a press conference on Friday in Jos, saying that the curfew has lasted for over four months.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state government imposed the curfew in the locality following the tension that followed the appointment of Mallam Danladi Maishanu, as the new Mai Tangale.

Maddo said the curfew, imposed since February, has hindered the people of the area from going about their lawful businesses.

“Even with the curfew, it has not stopped the isolated killings and kidnapping of our people at night.

“So, we urge the government to lift the curfew for the good of all,” he advised.

The Trustee also called on the government to reverse its decision on the appointment of Maishanu.

Maddo said that government’s action on the matter has violated section 21 (a) of the 1999 constitution (as amended) and the 2020 chieftaincy law of the state.

He explained that Dr Musa Maiyamba, in consonance with the customs and tradition of the people, was duly elected by the kingmakers as the new ruler after the demise of the former Mai Tangale, Dr. Abdu Maisheru.

He said the decision of the government to impose a ruler on the people has thrown the Tangale nation into serious confusion.

The Trustee further advised Maishanu to stop parading himself as the Mai Tangale, in the interest of peace and tranquility.

He said “In line with the State Chieftaincy law and the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Musa Maiyamba is the duly elected and recognised 16th Mai Tangale.

“Any other person parading himself as the Mai Tangale is an impostor, and so, we wish to advise Mallam Danladi Maishanu to stop parading himself as such in the interest of peace, tranquility and good governance,” he advised.

Maddo further said that if the government fails to reverse the decision, it would approach the court to seek justice and ensure that the right thing is done.

“Tangale people are peace loving and have decided to approach the judiciary in resolving the issues surrounding the stool.

“The judiciary being the last hope of the common man, we hope it will rectify this great injustice done to Tangale people,” he said.

The Trustee also advised the state government to desist from using private security instead of legitimate and lawful security personnel to maintain law and order in the area. (NAN)
