Dutse, Sept. 29, 2017 (NAN) The Maigatari Local Council of Jigawa has donated scanning machine, glucometre and Sphygmomanometer worth N1.3 million to the General Hospital in Maigatari to boost healthcare services in the area.
The council’s Information Officer, Malam Usman Abubakar, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Friday.
Abubakar said that the council’s Chairman, Alhaji Sani Dahiru, while handing over the items to the medical director of the facility, noted that the gesture would stop referral of patients from the hospital to Gumel General Hospital.
He added that Dahiru also pointed out that it would also enhance the checking of patients’ blood pressure on time.
The spokesman added that the chairman urged the hospital management to ensure proper use and maintenance of the donated equipment.
According to him, while receiving the items, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Muhammad Nura, commended the council for the gesture.
Abubukar added that Nura further noted that the kits would go along in boosting services in the facility.
He added that it would also improve healthy life of residents of the area. (NAN)

Dutse, Sept. 29, 2017 (NAN) A Philanthropist, who pleaded to remain anonymous, has donated 30 mattresses to Babura General Hospital, in Babura Local Government Area of Jigawa.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Dutse, the donor said she donated the items to the maternity ward of the hospital in order to ameliorate the sufferings of expectant mothers, especially from rural areas.
According to her, the gesture will promote safe motherhood and safe delivery among mothers in the area.
“I just did it for the sake of Allah. I have given such donations secretly, not because of anyone but Allah.
“And it is only from Allah that I expect my reward in the hereafter, so please don’t mention my name.
“And I also hope that the gesture will encourage rural women to patronise health facilities for antenatal and post-natal care,” the donor said.
She expressed optimism that the facility would ensure better utilisation of the items.
The Director, Clinical Services of the hospital, Dr Dahiru Sani, commended the gesture and other wealthy individuals to emulate the donor. (NAN)

Ijebu-Ode (Ogun), Sept. 4, 2017 (NAN) Mrs Abibat Ayanlola, 32, who was delivered of a baby girl during Ojude-Oba Festival on Sunday in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun has received a cash gift of N100,000 from Gov. Ibikunle Amosun.

A visibly elated Ayanlola, on Monday received the donation from the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Babatunde Ipaye, who visited her at the State General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode.

She thanked the governor for the gesture and all those who assisted her and the baby during the episode which she claimed caught her unawares.

In a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after receiving the gift, Ayanlola narrated how medics came to her aid when they heard her distress call.

NAN reports that Ojude-Oba is an annual festival celebrated in Ijebu-Ode, the third day after Eid-el-Kabir.

Ayanlola told NAN that though, she hails from the Awori clan in Ogun, she regularly attended the annual celebration of the Ojude-Oba with keen interest.

Narrating her ordeal further, Ayanlola said that she never expected she would suddenly go into labour having been told by her caregivers that the expected delivery date was Sept. 12.

According to her, what more can I say. God spared my life and my baby’s, now the governor came to my aid with a cash gift of N100, 000.

“I am a caterer by trade, while my husband, Lukman is a transporter, but personally, I travel down every year from where I reside to partake in the Ojude-Oba Festival which thrills me.

“I went to urinate having been pressed while partaking in the event. As I came back, I started feeling uneasy and decided to relax a bit on the stairs of the pavilion.

“Before I realised what was happening, I couldn’t stand on my feet again and then went into labour before eventually birthing at the spot.

“It was the quick intervention of the emergency medical team that saved my life and that of my baby.

“I normally attend my antenatal clinic, which is programmed for Thursdays and was told my date for expected delivery was Sept. 12.

“I thank God for living through this episode and also thank Ogun Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, for his benevolence through the financial support,” she said.

Ayanlola says the baby is her fourth child having had three children, all males.

In his remarks, Ipaye advised pregnant women to take necessary steps in ensuring that they remained healthy by conforming to their doctors’ advice, particularly after 35 weeks of the pregnancy.

The commissioner urged them to minimise travelling, saying that it posed a great risk to their safety and the development of the baby.

“She took a great risk, but was lucky that the emergency team prepared well for such eventuality.

“Usually, when we have large gatherings like this in Ogun, it is customary for us to always have an emergency medical team on standby.

“The baby was delivered with the umbilical cord round her neck which created some complications in her birth as we have to eliminate the risks.

“If that level of care was not given, the baby might not have survived and the possibility of losing the mother too was high, because she lost a lot of blood in the process.

“She was delivered of the baby on the floor which was not the best place for such activity; so she was immediately rushed to the hospital for proper care afterwards.

“I advise pregnant women that when they are close to their delivery time, they should not to be too far away from their caregivers or their family members,” he said. (NAN)

Abuja, Aug. 28, 2017 (NAN) Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has donated hospital equipment to boost healthcare services in Adamawa.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Fatima Abubakar, said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
Abubakar explained that the former vice president made the donation to boost health care facilities as well as to support hospital expansion scheme embarked on by Gov. Mohammed Bindow.
She said the equipment consist GE Brivo, X-Ray machine and ultrasound equipment for medical investigation and diagnosis.
“The donation given by Wazirin Adamawa has already boosted facilities at Jada General Hospital for effective patient care.
“In addition to that, he also equipped the medical laboratory with state of the art equipment for disease diagnosis and also provided alternative power supply, solar system in the laboratory,” she said.
According to her, before this support from Abubakar, the state government had commenced facilities expansion scheme and the initiative is geared towards accelerating citizens’ access to robust and sustained healthcare delivery across the state.
The commissioner disclosed that the state government had also flagged-off rehabilitation and reconstruction at Numan and Mubi general hospitals.
She said that the government also upgraded facilities in Jada General Hospital and the present administration of Bindow was now collaborating with the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, for capacity support and advisory interventions in some of the hospitals in the state.
“The state government is currently working on site preparations at Jada General Hospital for the installation of the digital X-Ray equipment.
“This upgrading of facilities in the state will considerably improve medical services for our people and this development is one of the cardinal campaign objectives of the present administration,” she said. (NAN)

Birnin Kebbi, July 1, 2017 (NAN) The Sunglon Equity Pharmacy Ltd (SEPL), an NGO, has donated 100 cartons of Paracetamol tablets and cough Syrups to the Kebbi State Medicaid Foundation.

The wife of the state governor, Dr Zainab Bagudu, made the disclosure when she received the donation of the drugs to the foundation on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi.

Mrs Bagudu thanked the organisation for the donation, noting that it will go a long way in assisting indigent patients in the state.

The wife of the governor called on philanthropists and corporate organisations to emulate SEPL by assisting less privileged members of the society.

The Leader of the group, Mr Elder Sunday, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the gesture was aimed at promoting the wellbeing of the people and to enable the foundation discharge its health service delivery effectively.

Sunday promised to continue rendering such assistance to the foundation, stressing the need for people to render similar support for effective healthcare delivery. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), May 15, 2017 (NAN) The Modibbo Haruna Buhari Charity Organisation (BCO), Abuja, an NGO, has called on wealthy individuals to contribute to the development of their communities.

The organisation gave the task against the backdrop of the donation of transformers to communities in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State by the former clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa.

Mr Modibbo Suleiman, the National Chairman, Board of Trustee (BOT) of the organisation, said this on Monday while fielding questions from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Keffi, Keffi Local Government Area of the state.

Suleiman commended Maikasuwa for donating two transformers to the benefitting communities to boost electricity supply.

He noted that the transformers were donated to Tsohon Kasuwa area and Doctors quarters in order to boost their socio-economic activities.

He called on other well individuals to emulate the donor in order to improve the standard of living of the people of the country.

Besides, Suleiman also appealed to Nigerians to always pray for the good health of President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders to enable them discharge their duties effectively.

“Praying for our leaders will bring more good things and will also bring peace, unity and national development will be achieved,” he added.

He also advised youths to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities, avoid negative tendencies and to support the government.

He restated the commitment of the organisation to continue to initiate peace building projects as well as to key into projects that have direct bearing on the lives of Nigerians.

NAN recalls that on May 6, at the 5th convocation of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Muhammad Mainoma, also lauded Maikasuwa for his positive contribution to the development of the university.

“We commend the former NASS clerk for the donation of the transformers to the communities and for his contribution to the development of the state University, Keffi.

“The former National Assembly clerk also deserved commendation for empowering the youths to become self-reliant and for his contribution to humanity at large,” Mainoma said. (NAN)

Abuja, May 12,2017(NAN) The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) says it has concluded plans to  provide two Barges and 300 life jacks to Idah communities in  Kogi.

A Berge is small boat that conveys people from one riverine area to the other.

The Managing Director of AEDC ,Mr Ernest Mupwaya announced when he paid a courtesy visit on the Senator representing  Kogi-East Senatorial district Sen. Atai Aidoko in Abuja on Friday.

He said the planned gesture was to support the movement of people, traders and goods in riverside communities in the state.

Mupwaya said that that the reason for the corporate social responsibility programme was to cement a long time relationship between the organisation and members of the public.

“It is from a good long and time relationship that the business of a company can be sustained, if you have a healthy relationship; it results into customers’ willingness to pay eventually, this helps the company to sustain its business,’’ he said.

Mupwaya also said he visited the Senator to intimate him of AEDC’s intention to extend its Corporate Social Responsibility to Kogi.

“We have picked project in Kogi which will help alleviate some of the challenges of the people.

“There is an area in Kogi where there is a crossing between Idah and Agenebode market in Edo, where members of the public have to cross using boats and other means.

“As our contribution, we have agreed with the leaders of the community that AEDC will procure two Barges in addition to procure 300 life jackets within two to three weeks and deliver to the community.

“We believe that this gesture will help alleviate some of the constraints facing the people in that area,.

‘’I think we are all aware some of the risks in crossing a big river such as the Niger, especially in this raining season, particularly when there is waves on the rivers.

He said it was ideal for any company conducting business within a community to add value to members of the host community.

“Of course, we believe we are adding value through the provision of electricity which impacts on several aspects of our lives.

“But beyond that, there may be other areas where an organisation can extend help to resolve one or two constraints facing members of the public.

He said that AEDC had been involved in carrying out various social responsibility programmes in its catchment areas.

‘’Although the power sector is yet to fully recover, there is confidence that the various plans to increase power is showing positive development.

“Within a certain period, Nigerians will see a more improved power sector“.

Responding, Aidoko who  thanked AEDC for its intension to provide the gestures for Idah communities, expressed optimism that the items  would help to save life in the area.

He further said it was a rare for a company to extent gesture to embark on such responsibility at this period in Nigeria.

“In Nigeria, a lot of business does not take the issue of corporate social responsibility very seriously.

‘’But for AEDC to take the initiative to pay attention to the remote needs of people, where they do business, is commendable.“

“ I commend you for taking this bold initiative.

“There will be a lot of positive impact on our people and to your business as well.

‘’We have the reach to make people pay their bills, when they find out that the organisation is responsive to their needs..

He said it was important for other Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) and Generating Companies (GenCos) in Nigeria to emulate AEDC`s gesture

Aidoko said that he was glad that AEDC had begun to address the issue of erratic electricity supply in some areas in the state.

Contributing, Mr Emmanuel Egwu, (PDP, Idah,Ibaji,Igalamela, Ofu), House of Representatives, also commended AEDC for remembering Idah communities in its corporate social responsibility programme.

He also expressed the hope that the gesture would ease the movement of people and goods to markets within the communities and ultimately improved the economy.

”What you have done will add value to the economy, because there is a large production of yams and rice in Ibagi.”

Ibagi is a local government with riverine communities sharing border with Idah Local Government Area.

“The problem they have is that of logistics to transport their farm produce  to the urban areas, some times the rickety boats capsize when conveying the produce.

“But the barges and safety life jacks that you are about to provide will add value to the life of the people and the economy.’’(NAN)

Enugu, Feb. 17, 2017 (NAN) The Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Paul Lehmann, on Friday donated sets of computer to students of the School for the Visually Impaired in Enugu.

Lehmann, who disclosed this during a courtesy call on Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the state, said he was in Enugu to explore business opportunities with the business community.

The envoy said that his short stay in the city had afforded him the opportunity to appreciate the alluring landscape and immense infrastructural development in the state.

He said that the business community in his country would be encouraged to explore commercial opportunities in the state.

Lehmann said that Nigeria and Australia had longstanding relationship which would be further strengthened through mutually beneficial economic cooperation.

The high commissioner said the prospect for the country and Australia to collaborate in the extractive sector was both enticing and huge.

Responding, Ugwuanyi said that the state was endowed with natural resources such as coal, oil and gas, and several other investment opportunities.

The governor said that his administration had taken steps to protect the interest of potential local and foreign investors in the state.

“We have continued to invest in areas as security, infrastructural development, environmental improvement, expansion and regularisation of social services, intellectual development and skill acquisition.

“All of these, we believe will help to sustain the enabling environment for business to flourish in the state,” he said.

Ugwuanyi said that the location of a free trade zone in the state as well as the presence of an international airport and his administration’s urbanisation initiative were investors’ delight.

The governor said that the state government had listed over 17 government-owned companies and enterprises for privatisation and commercialisation in order to boost the economy of the state.

Ugwuanyi appealed to the Australian government to assist the state to develop its agricultural potential, and its bid to provide improved water supply and healthcare for the people. (NAN)

Maiduguri, Jan. 13, 2017 (NAN) The United States on Friday donated eight military-grade multi-purpose tents to the Nigeria Police Force to ensure quick restoration of civil authorities in communities liberated from Boko Haram insurgents in Borno.

Ms Rosalyn Wiese, the Director of the U.S. International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, presented the items to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, at a ceremony in Maiduguri.

Wiese explained that the gesture was aimed at supporting the country toward the re- establishment of civil authorities in communities liberated in the North East.

“The U.S. Government is partnering with the Government of Nigeria to support efforts to deploy additional civilian security particularly the police to the North East Nigeria.

“The tents are donated to the police because many areas have been ravaged by Boko Haram, many public buildings including police stations and barracks are still being rebuilt.

“A successful transition to community oriented policing that focuses on working closely with all members of the community is crucial to build trust, establish relationships and improve communication.

“We are also working with the Nigeria Police to improve training and equipment for its personnel in the North East,” she said.

She said that the U.S. planned to donate additional equipment and furniture to the police to ensure the restoration of civil authority in the North East.

Receiving the items, Idris represented by the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Zone 12, Mr Yakubu Jubrin, thanked the U.S. government for the gesture and promised judicious usage. (NAN)
