Sallah: 2 hospitalised as hoodlums fight in Dutse – Police

Dutse, June 16, 2018 (NAN) The Police in Jigawa says two persons, a suspect and a victim, are receiving treatment after hoodlums fought in Dutse Local Government Area of the state.
The Spokesman of the Police in the state, Mr Abdu Jinjiri, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Saturday.
Jinjiri said the people were hospitalised as they sustained various degree of injuries after a clash between the hoodlums on Friday at Limawa village.
“On Friday, at about 7 p.m., a team of policemen attached to Dutse Division brought one Abubakar Musbahu, aged 22 and resident of Gwari village unconscious.
“One Latti Sani, aged 26 and a resident of Shuwarin village in Kiyawa Local Government Area, stabbed him with knife and as a result he sustained serious injuries, while Sani was beaten up by the mob,” Jinjiri said.
The spokesman, who could not give reason or cause of the fight, however said that the police have commenced investigation to unravel the skirmish.
According to him, the victims were taken to Rasheed Shekoni Specialist Hospital, Dutse for medical attention. (NAN)

Centre discharges 120 VVF patients in Jigawa

Dutse, April 22, 2018 (NAN) The Jigawa State Ministry of Health said no fewer that 120 patients of Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) were discharged from VVF Centre in Jahun local government area of the state.

The ministry’s spokesman, Malam Musa Aliyu, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Sunday.

Aliyu said the victims were discharged on Thursday after they underwent surgery performed by the Médecins Sans Frontières, an international medical humanitarian organisation operating in the state.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that the organization had treated and discharged 296 VVF patients from the centre in July 2017.

He explained that at the occasion, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Abba Zakari, congratulated the patients for their discharge and eventual reunion with their families.

The spokesman added that Zakari also called on members of the society to show love and support to the patients.

In his remarks, the VVF Surgeon, Dr Geert Morren, stressed the need for more effort to eradicate fistula problem in Nigeria.

“The commissioner also appreciated the efforts of the organisation in renewing the lives of the patients by successfully performing the surgeries on them,” the spokesman said.

Aliyu also told NAN that Alhaji Lawan Dahiru, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, said the patients would be trained to acquire skills in order to promote self-reliance among them.

He added that the training would ease the psychological trauma and stigmatisation they may experience after discharge.

The Fistula Foundation Nigeria (FFN) had on July 22, 2017, said that no fewer than 1.2 million women and girls were suffering from Obstetric Fistula (VVF) in the country.

Malam Musa Isa, the Founder and Executive Director of the foundation, said this in Dutse during the graduation of 108 rehabilitated obstetric fistula patients in the state.

Isa said that the foundation had from 2014 to 2017, rehabilitated a total of 408 VVF patients in the state.

He explained that obstetric fistula is a devastating condition brought about by child birth injury caused when a woman suffers prolonged or difficult labour, without obtaining the right medical attention. (NAN)

Dutse, Jan. 11, 2018 (NAN) No fewer than 110 visually impaired people in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa would benefit from free eye surgery to be sponsored by the council.
Alhaji Ibrahim Yakubu, the Chairman of the council, made this known to newsmen on Thursday in Dutse.
According to Yakubu, the selected beneficiaries will be taken to General Hospital, Dutse, for their treatment.
Yakubu said that 10 beneficiaries would be selected for the exercise from each of the 11 wards of the council.
“We will select 10 people with eye problems from each of the 11 wards of the council and sponsor them to undergo surgery.
“And we will be just and fair in the selection. I mean only those who deserved it will be selected, irrespective of his/her political affiliation or background,” Yakubu assured.
“This is not the first time, as some few months ago, 62 visually impaired persons underwent similar survey under our sponsorship,” the chairman added.
According to him, the gesture is to assist the victims regain their lost sight. (NAN)
