NPFL: Rejuvenated Nasarawa United spank Enyimba

Lafia, Feb. 23, 2020 (NAN) Nasarawa United Football Club side recorded another home win in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday by defeating Enyimba International of Aba 2-0 at the Lafia Township Stadium.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2019/2020 NPFL) Match Day 21 fixture saw hosts Nasarawa United playing with much more vigour to beat the Enyimba side.

They opened scores in the 33rd minute through Chinedu Ohanachom who latched onto the ball parried away by the Enyimba goalkeeper to blast home from close range.

In spite of the advantage, the home team attacked with more determination but failed to break down the Enyimba defence till the game went on break.

In the second half, both teams came out with exciting attacking options but made no breakthrough till the 87th minute.

Substitute Dauda Maigishiri received a decent pass from Haggai Katoh to place the ball in the right hand corner of the net to make it 2-0.

Fatai Osho, the Head Coach of Enyimba, expressed disappointment over the loss but attributed it to a change in team selection due to their upcoming continental fixture.

“We rested some players today (Sunday) bearing in mind we have to play that particular match, and I think in some form that affected our performance today.

“But we have to congratulate Nasarawa United because they also wotked hard for the victory,” he said.(NAN)

Enyimba International draw goalless with visiting Bendel Insurance

Aba, April 7, 2019 (NAN) Baldwin Bazuaye, the Head Coach of Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin, on Sunday hailed his players for doing “a great job’’ in drawing goalless with hosts Enyimba International FC.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Insurance drew with the former African champions at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba in the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Speaking at the end of the Group A Match Day 14 fixture, Bazuaye expressed satisfaction with his players’ performance throughout the game.

“Our players did a great job. It’s not easy to get a draw at this point of the league,’’ he said.

NAN reports that both sides had also drawn goalless during their meeting in Benin in the league’s first round.(NAN)

MFM FC survive Enyimba FC scare for 1-1 draw

Lagos, March 31, 2019 (NAN) Lagos-based MFM Football Club on Sunday rallied back for a 1-1 draw to preserve their unbeaten home record against visiting Enyimba International FC in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Match Day 13 fixture at the Agege Stadium saw the Aba-based Enyimba opening scores through Bashir Abdulrahman in the 49th minute.

The Olukoya boys, however, responded almost immediately, through a brilliant strike from Chijioke Akuneto in the 56th minut.

The home team later claimed they were denied two penalty kicks, in the first half and the last minute of the game.

MFM FC’s coach Fidelis Ilechukwu urged the League Management Company (LMC) to take action against the match officials.

“To me, this is unexpected in the league. Enyimba International FC should stop complaining about other clubs. That is how they complained in Benin (against Bendel Insurance FC) and they have been complaining about the NPFL.

“Enyimba are guilty of what they are complaining about, regarding other clubs. I will want LMC to look into this  because we had two clear-cut penalty kicks which were denied us.

“After so much hardwork, it is painful. Maybe, we don’t always want to talk, but this match makes me sad. This type of officiating is not the first, second or third time.

“It is not our own failure that we did not beat them, but a failure on their part. Enyimba should have opened up the game so that we can have a good game,” he said.(NAN)

Bendel Insurance draw goalless with visiting Enyimba

Benin, March 3, 2019 (NAN) Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin on Sunday at the University of Benin Sports Complex drew goalless with Enyimba International FC in the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Speaking at the end of the match, Insurance’s Head Coach Baldwin Bazuaye expressed satisfaction with his players’ performance in the rescheduled Group A Match Day 2 fixture.

Bazuaye said his players did a great job, saying they would go on to train hard to be able to convert their chances in subsequent matches.

Also reacting, the Head Coach of Enyimba, Usman Abdallah, commended the performance of his players.

“It was a good fight from both teams,’’ he added.

Speaking also, the Edo Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, commended the performance of the home team.

Shaibu said Insurance players are still young and they would fit into the system before the beginning of the league’s second round.

“They are coming up, bringing in their best gradually,’’ he said.(NAN)

NPFL: Kwara United beat Enyimba, Plateau United bring El-Kanemi down in Ilorin

Ilorin, Jan. 20, 2019 (NAN) Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin on Sunday defeated visiting Enyimba International FC of Aba 3-2 to record their first win of the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Group A week 3 match in the abridged 2018/2019 NPFL season was played at the Kwara Stadium Complex in Ilorin.

Segun Alebiosu scored a brace in the match, with Kwara United coming from behind twice to level the scores.

Ibrahim Mustapha broke the deadlock in the 16th minute, through a volley which caught the host goalkeeper off guard, after receiving a pass from Jean-Marie Guera.

Kwara United drew level in the 31st minute after a clinical finish by Segun Alebiosu who dribbled past Enyimba defenders to round the goalkeeper before scoring with a low shot.

Kwara United responded to the half-time team talk better than the visitors in the second half, with the determination to pick the maximum points.

In the 55th minute, Kwara United’s zeal to take the lead was cut short when one of its defenders was adjudged to have hacked Guera in the penalty box.

Joseph Osadiaye was on hand to make it 2-1 for Enyimba from the penalty kick spot.

Alebiosu got his second goal of the game to make it 2-2 in the 61st minute.

Substitute Mohammed Usman got the winning goal for Kwara United with a header off a cross from Uche Onwuasonaya in the 73rd minute.

Kwara United have now garnered four points from a possible nine.

They are away to newcomers Insurance FC of Benin in Week Four on Wednesday and Lobi Stars in Makurdi in Week Five at the weekend.

Alebiosu, who lost a penalty kick in the first match and scored an own goal against MFM FC of Lagos on Match Day 2, later said he was delighted to come back to scoring ways.

“I pledge to continue to score, to justify the belief the team has in me,’’ he said.

Earlier at the same venue, Plateau United FC of Jos defeated visiting El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri 2-0 in a Group B match of the NPFL.

Saeed Jibrin benefited from a defensive blunder to put the hosts ahead in the 53rd minute, while Bernard Ovoke scored the second goal to seal victory for the hosts.

NAN reports that Plateau United were ordered to play their home league matches in Ilorin after they fell foul of the NPFL rules during their Match Day 1 fixture against FC IfeanyiUbah in Jos on Jan. 13.

They are to play their next two home games in Ilorin.(NAN)

NPFL: Enyimba holds Pillars to 1-1 draw in Kano

Kano, Feb. 18, 2018 (NAN ) Enyimba International Football Club of Aba on Sunday drew 1-1 with hosts Kano Pillars FC in a week 9 match of the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Kano Pillars gave a good account of themselves from the beginning of the match played at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

Striker Junior Lokosa opened scoring for the hosts in the 35th minute to increase his season’s goals’ tally to eight in nine matches.

Goalkeeper David Obiozor was however beaten by  Emmanuel Anyanwu’s shot  in the 40th minute for the equaliser.

Speaking after the match, Kano Pillars’ coach Ibrahim Musa praised the home fans for believing in the team even in a difficult match.

Musa, however, said the match was a difficult one for his team, praising his players for fighting relentlessly.

Musa said the team would be worked upon to give a better performance against Rangers International FC on Feb. 25.

Enyimba’s coach Paul Aigbogun, on his part, commended his players for their fighting spirit and picking a point against a good team like Kano Pillars.(NAN)
