FCT FA working on making its Women Football League more competitive, chairman says

Abuja, March 6, 2020 (NAN) Adam Mukhtar, Chairman of the FCT Football Association (FA), says the return of the FCT Women’s Football League has been delayed because the FA was trying to make it more competitive.

Mukhtar told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja that the league, which was last staged in 2018, would however kick off very soon with noticeable improvements.

“It is important that there must be a required number of registered clubs before the league can begin. But we are sure that the league will eventually commence very soon.

“We are trying to plan it well because the new FA on board is trying to introduce some improvements, one of which is that we must get the required number of clubs.

“To effectively carry out those improvements, we need an appreciable number of clubs to register for the league before it takes off,” he said.

NAN reports that Mukhtar had previously stated that the FA had to first create a proper structure before the league could return.(NAN)

Kebbi BSC outclass Abuja BSC to win maiden Abuja Beach Soccer Tournament

Abuja, Feb. 16, 2020 (NAN) Kebbi Beach Soccer Club on Sunday in Abuja drew on experience to defeat Abuja Beach Soccer Club 8-4 and become champions of the maiden Abuja Beach Soccer Tournament.

In the final match at the Jabi Lake Park venue of the tournament, the team from Kebbi started the first period strongly against a free-scoring Abuja side.

Team captain Hammed Kareem grabbed an early hat-trick in a period totally dominated by the Birnin Kebbi-based side and it ended 5-1.

The second period started much like the first but Abuja BSC slowed down the Kebbi side for it to end 7-3.

The final period, which was initially flat probably due to fatigue, came to life when Abuja BSC scored a goal and grew into the game.

With the spectators cheering the home team on, a comeback seemed probable.

However, any thought of a comeback was squashed when Chidozie Frank put the game beyond the reach of the home side.

It ended a disappointing 8-4 against the high-scoring Abuja BSC who scored a total of 23 goals in the three-day tournament.

Kareem, who was fantastic throughout the tournament, was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.

Kwara Beach Soccer Club’s Emeka Ogbonna, who scored a total of 11 goals in the tournament, was presented with the Highest Goal Scorer’s medal.

Speaking with journalists after the game, the FCT Football Association (FA) chairman, Adam Mukhtar, praised Abuja BSC for their spirited performance.

He said the FCT FA, which put the tournament together, was happy with its reception by football fans.

“Owing to the huge success of this tournament, our next move is to take beach soccer to the Area Councils.

“We actually put the team together a few weeks ago and the players gave a good account of themselves. We emerged runners-up and scored the most goals.

“We will keep the team together and get another go at Kebbi BSC. Very soon, we will be at their level,” Mukhtar said.

The FCT FA Chairman promised that the Abuja Beach Soccer Tournament had come to stay and could only get better.

MVP Kareem, who dedicated his award to his son, Salam, said he was surprised by the performance of their Abuja opponents.

“I am happy we are champions, but the Abuja team were very impressive. The day belongs to us and I wish we could dominate the sport for long,” he said.

Earlier, Kwara BSC had defeated Badagry BSC 7-4 to finish third in the tournament.

Ogbonna, who was the highest goal scorer of the tournament with 11 goals, said his team would take the lessons learnt in the tournament at heart.(NAN)

Beach Soccer Tournament: Abuja BSC humble Kwara BSC, to face Kebbi BSC in final

Abuja, Feb. 15, 2020 (NAN) Abuja Beach Soccer Club continued their good run at the maiden edition of the Abuja Beach Soccer Tournament by defeating Kwara Beach Soccer Club 10-5 on Saturday.

Abuja BSC had shrugged off their underdogs tag going into the competition at the Jabi Lake Park in Abuja by shocking Badagry BSC 9-4 in their opening game.

The capital city side made their intentions known in the first period by scoring four goals against their more-experienced Ilorin-based opponents.

They added another four in the second period and would have scored more, but for many fluffed opportunities.

Kwara BSC captain, Emeka Ogbonna, however scored a solitary goal for his team to end the second period 1-8.

The Abuja team’s dominance was total in the first two periods, so much that Kwara BSC twice substituted their goalkeepers in a bid to plug their bleeding defence.

However in the third period, the FCT-based club took their foot off the pedal and allowed Kwara into the game through Ogbonna and Usman Yusuf.

The captain added two more goals to complete his hat-trick and Yusuf contributed some late efforts to reduce the deficit.

It ended 10-5 in favour of Abuja BSC, who have now scored a total of 19 goals so far in the tournament.

They will on Sunday in the final match of the tournament face Kebbi BSC, who earlier thrashed Badagry BSC 8-3.(NAN)

Abuja Beach Soccer: Kebbi thrash Badagry 8-3

Abuja, Feb. 15, 2020 (NAN) Kebbi Beach Soccer Club condemned Badagry Beach Soccer Club to an 8-3 thrashing to hand the Lagos side their second consecutive defeat at the ongoing 1st Abuja Beach Soccer Tournament on Saturday.

The tournament, hosted by the FCT Football Association, is being played at the Jabi Lake.

Having narrowly edged Kwara Beach Soccer Club 5-4 in their opening match, Kebbi started the game against Badagry with more intent and ended the first period 4-1.

In the second period, Kebbi continued to dominate and added two more goals before Badagry attempted to stage a comeback with two quick goals to end the period 6-3.

The final period proved decisive for Kebbi and it saw them blow away their hard fighting opponent in every department of the game.

It ended 8-3 in favour of Kebbi Beach Soccer Club.

Badagry, which suffered a shocking 4-9 defeat to Abuja Beach Soccer Club on the opening day, have now lost two games.

They will play Kwara Beach Soccer Club on the final day of the tournament.

The 1st Abuja Beach Soccer Tournament will end on Sunday at the Jabi lake. (NAN)

Abuja, Feb. 7, 2020 (NAN) The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) football governing body on Friday in Abuja released the fixtures for the 2019/2020 FCT FA League Super 4 tournament.

 

According to the draws, second round Group C winners, Winco Foam FC, will confront Group D leaders, Basic Maracana FC, at the Area 3 Sports Complex on Monday.

 

Later that day, WACO Football Academy will do battle against Abees Academy.

 

Six matches have been slated to be played in the league’s Super 4, with two games each on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, to produce the 2019/20 FCT FA League eventual champions.

 

At the brief event, Chairman Technical Committee, Samuel Abimbola, commended the league’s organising committee for managing the league without any major hitch.

 

Abimbola advised the four teams which qualified for the Super 4 imbibe the spirit of the game, while also being competitive.

 

On his part, the Chairman, Media Committee, Andrew Abbah, thanked his members and the entire FCT FA family for ensuring that the league attracted media attention.

We are running inclusive, transparent football association, FCT FA chairman

Abuja, Dec. 20, 2019 (NAN) Chairman of the FCT Football Association (FA), Adam Mukhtar, on Friday in Abuja said inclusiveness and transparency have guided him since he assumed office.

Mukhtar, who spoke at the inauguration of various FCT FA standing committees, said: “Unlike the previous board under which I served, we have made the FCT FA an inclusive association where all stakeholders are carried along.

“We are committed and open to fresh ideas and we have also made the association transparent because it is the only way you can attract investment.”

A total of 13 committees were inaugurated at the event and their members were sworn in by the chairman.

The committees include: Technical and Development (chaired by Abimbola Samuel), Strategic Studies (chaired by Godwin Bamigboye), Protocol and Ceremonies (with Pascal Duru as chairman) and Players’ Status (Patrick Bassey as chairman).

Others are: Referees Committee (chaired by Hashimu Adamu), Youth Development Committee (chaired by Wakili John), Area Councils Football Development Committee, and Ethics and Fair Play Committee (both chaired by Salihu Kolo).

The rest are Security Committee (headed by Daniel Kwoi), Marketing and Sponsorship Committee headed by Noel Anosike, while Women’s Football Committee is chaired by Ngozi Ezeh.

The Organising Committee for FCT FA Competitions is chaired by Musa Garba, while Andrew Abha was sworn in as chairman of Media and Public Relations Committee.

Mike Ndidi and Niyi Busayi are the Media and Public Relations committee’s vice chairman and secretary respectively.

Muktar charged the committees to be steadfast in carrying out their assignments.

“Your tasks are definitely going to be challenging, but I am convinced that you can do the job because you have the passion and competence,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the committees, Victoria Nlemigbo, who is also the vice chairman of Strategic Studies Committee, promised to live up to expectations.

“Our responsibilities have been spelt out and we accept the tasks at hand with humility.

“We are willing and ready to put in our best so that through our support and effort the FCT FA will become the envy of other football associations,” she said.(NAN)

Our grassroots football development plan on course, says FCT FA chairman

Abuja, Aug. 13, 2019 (NAN) Mohammed Mukhtar, Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Football Association (FA), on Wednesday in Abuja reiterated his commitment to developing football at the grassroots in the FCT.

Mukhtar told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the FCT FA had already embarked on some programmes aimed at developing football at the grassroots level.

“We are on course and we have embarked on a number of football development programmes as promised when we were inaugurated.

“We have just concluded the FCT U-15 Inter-Council Football Tournament.

“I announced at the closing ceremony that I will award 15 coaches drawn from the area councils scholarship and they will proceed on the course in October.

“We also recently organised a coaching clinic and health and wellness training for coaches in the FCT.

“We have a similar programme penciled down for referees, which we will carry out soon, and we also intend to recruit more referees as part of our grassroots development plan,” he said.

NAN reports that the former vice chairman of the FCT FA, who in June emerged chairman having defeated the then incumbent Musa Talle, had promised grassroots football development as his cardinal objective.

Two FCT clubs recently crashed out of the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 4 tournament. NAF Football Club were eliminated by Jigawa Golden Stars of Hadeija, while Adamawa United sent FRSC Football Club packing.

Mukhtar, who is also the president of Heart Football Club, told NAN that henceforth clubs in the FCT vying for national glory would be rendered some kind of support.

“The outcome of the NNL Super 4 playoffs was decided on the pitch, so unfortunately it just wasn’t their victories.

“As you know, we are not in control of the internal workings of such clubs and we don’t run them but what we can do is to provide support for them to succeed at national tournaments.

“I have discussed it with my team and we have decided to set up a committee to liaise with FCT-based clubs so that they can compete favourably during national tournaments,” he said. (NAN)

Muhammed floors incumbent Talle to emerge new FCT FA chairman

Kuje (FCT), June 20, 2019 (NAN) Mouktar Muhammed, the Second Vice-Chairman of the FCT Football Association (FA), on Thursday in Kuje defeated incumbent Chairman Musa Talle to emerge the new Chairman of the association.

Muhammed gathered 11 of the available 15 votes to emerge winner after the FA board elections held amidst tight security.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the choice of Kuje by both the Electoral Committee and the FCT FA as venue of the elections had earlier raised eyebrows.

The venue is about 30 minutes away from the Abuja city centre, and the tight security at the hotel where the elections were held also gave ominous signs.

Even the presence of no less than three members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Executive Committee and no less than five state FA Chairmen did nothing to assuage fears.

The word which went round was that they were there in solidarity with Talle who had been in office as Chairman for eight years.

But, when voting started, all fears soon disappeared as the chairmanship election quickly became a no-contest, with Talle getting only four votes.

Godwin Bamigboye, the third contestant for the chairmanship position, who had earlier in the day announced he was quitting the race, got no vote recorded for him.

While withdrawing from the race, Bamigboye had accused the Electoral Committee chairman, Victor Ijeremen, a retired FIFA-badged referee, of violating the association’s statutes and electoral guidelines.

Although he did not cite the provision(s) allegedly violated by the electoral committee, he said he no longer had confidence in the credibility of the outcome of the election.

Ijeremen however told Bamigboye, who is the chairman of FCT Football Coaches Association, that his decision to step down was inconsequential.

“This (withdrawal) has no consequence, coming on elections day when his (Bamigboye’s) name has already appeared on the ballot paper,’’ he had said.

NAN reports that a total of 18 candidates vied for nine positions in the elections.

The positions are: Chairman, First Vice-Chairman, Second Vice-Chairman, Area Councils’ Representative, Women’s Representative and four other members of the board.

Delegates who participated in the voting process were drawn from the six FCT area councils of AMAC, Bwari, Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali and Abaji.

Other participants were the representatives of FCT Players’ Union, Referees Council, Coaches Association, Women’s League, FCT Sports Department, football academies and the FCT Football League.

Salisu Kolo scored 10 votes to beat Patrick Ngwaogu who had five in the race for the First Vice-Chairman position, while John Gaza emerged Second Vice-Chairman after defeating Sarki Hamidu 9-6.

Dauda Pascal emerged the Area Councils’ Representative with nine votes, defeating Musa Elisha who polled five votes, while Ngozi Eze had 11 votes to emerge the Women’s Representative.

Others voted in as board members are: Abimbola Samuel (nine votes), Adamu Hasimu (nine votes), Patrick Bassey (eight votes) and Wakili John (seven votes).

In his acceptance speech shortly after the new board was sworn in, Muhammed thanked his predecessor for his contributions to the development of football in the FCT.

He also commended the electoral committee for its transparency and credibility.

“I campaigned widely in the FCT and promised to carry everyone along for the good of the game. That promise stands.’’

Muhammed later told sports journalists he was delighted about how smoothly the electoral process went.

He also said the development of football facilities in the FCT and welfare of stakeholders ranked high on his agenda.

“We want to develop football facilities in the area councils. We also want to critically address the welfare of players, coaches, referees and other stakeholders.

“We need to utilise the goodwill recently attached to the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja to ensure that it returns to being the home of our national teams.

“Very soon, we will roll out our blueprint so that we can secure the necessary buy-in to make our tenure a success,” the new FCT FA chairman said.

NAN reports that Talle has however written to both the FCT FA Electoral Committee and Appeals Committee of his intention to challenge the outcome of the chairmanship election.(NAN)
