Easter

Abuja, April 8, 2023 (NAN) The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged Nigerians to be safety conscious while driving during the Easter celebration.

The FRSC Corps Marshal Dauda Biu said this in a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem on Saturday in Abuja.

Biu congratulated all Christians on the Easter celebration and called for deep reflection on the need to show love to others especially while using the road.

“I wish to seize the opportunity of the Easter celebration to call for deep reflection by people on the need for attitudinal change towards road safety and collective campaign against the menace of road traffic crashes in the country,” he said.

Biu also urged road users to observe traffic rules and regulations to ensure crash and obstruction-free festivities.

He said that the call was necessary due to the high rate of speed-related crashes in the country.

The FRSC boss advised motorists to drive defensively by observing traffic rules and regulations to achieve the goal of zero fatality during the festivities.

Biu said that the increase in human and vehicular movements across the country during Easter usually placed enormous pressure on the FRSC to effectively contain the traffic upsurge.

“I want to seriously appeal to motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations.

“Appropriate measures have been put in place through massive deployments of personnel and logistics across the nation to give succour to road travelers.

“The objectives of 2023 Easter special operations are to ensure zero fatality through enforcement,” he added.

Biu said there would be prompt removal of obstructions, enforcement of speeding, overloading and seatbelt offences, as well as violations on use of mobile phones while driving and lane indiscipline.

“Adequate deployments of our personnel and logistics to effectively cover all the road networks in the country as well as the identified black spots have been put in place.

“It is our hope that our goal of zero fatality during the Easter celebration will be achieved,” he said.

The Corps Marshal said that FRSC would continue to work hard to restore sanity to the road environment, beyond the Easter festivities.

He added that the Corps’ Call Centre and other rescue facilities across the country had been mobilised to respond to traffic any emergency.

Biu solicited the cooperation of members of the public and called on them to promptly report road emergencies to the FRSC’s toll free line 122.

“Or the studios of the National Traffic Radio through: 08052998090 or 09067000015 for prompt response,” he said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Abuja, Dec. 25, 2022 (NAN) The Acting Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Biu, has felicitated Nigerian Christians and enjoined everyone to duly observe established traffic regulations during the Christmas celebrations.

Biu said this in a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO) Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Bisi Kazeem, on Saturday in Abuja.

The FRSC boss reiterated his earlier calls for people to guide against bad driving habits that could compromise the safety of road users.

He expressed gratitude to the Almighty God for protecting Nigerians against various social and security challenges.

He said the period of Christmas should be devoted to giving glory to God for His favours and asking Him for more, instead of laying emphasis on merriments alone.

He urged people to pray fervently for more grace, peace and harmony in the country and protection for all Nigerians.

Biu cautioned travelers against dangers that go with road travels at this period of increased human and vehicular traffic.

Biu stressed that people must show extra vigilance while using the road to overcome any form of carnage.

He called on road users to support the ongoing road safety sensitisation programmes by the FRSC to address issues of poor attitude to road usage by people.

He added that these attitudes accounts for the huge challenges that Christmas and New Year can present, hence the campaigns for safer road environment in the country.

“FRSC as part of its annual end-of-the-year special patrol has put adequate measures in place and mapped out strategies to address all the anticipated traffic challenges that could hinder free movement of people and vehicles.

“Such measures would remain inadequate without cooperation from members of the public, particularly those that travel on the roads,” he said.

Biu warned people against some specific offences like route violation, overloading, speeding, light signs violation and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

These, he said, have been identified as responsible for most crashes and deaths that occur during the yuletide seasons.

“People must prove through their obedience to traffic rules and regulations that Christmas and New Year can be celebrated without the loss of lives, road obstruction and gridlocks that characterise the periods.

“All road travelers must observe these basic traffic rules to ensure the desired safety outcomes, not only during the Christmas and new year celebrations, but beyond the seasons,” he said.

The Acting Corps Marshal also appealed to Nigerians to cooperate with FRSC personnel and other security agencies as well as stakeholders in the civil societies, especially those who have voluntarily joined in keeping the roads safer in the spirits of road safety as a shared responsibility.

He assured the public that adequate patrol and rescue logistics as well as personnel have been deployed along all black spots and major highways across the country.

“This is to ease movement of travelers and render prompt medical care in case of crashes and other emergencies,” he said.

Biu appealed to Nigerians to report cases of obstruction, crashes and other emergencies to the FRSC toll free line: 122.

“Or directly call the studios of the FRSC National Traffic Radio – 107.1fm – through the numbers: 08052998090 or 09067000015 for prompt response to distress calls on all roads across the country,” he said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
