NAF tasks personnel on physical fitness for active operations

Abuja, Aug. 18, 2018 (NAN) The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has tasked its personnel on physical training, urging them to continue to exercise in order to have “sound mind in a sound body’’.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, gave the charge on Saturday during the Third Quarter Route March Exercise in Abuja.
The air chief, who was represented by AVM Muhammad Mohammed, the Chief of Policy and Plans, NAF Headquarters, said the exercise was aimed at having healthy and fit personnel.
He said that the physical fitness exercise was also aimed at improving the general fitness of the personnel.
Abubakar said that the quarterly exercise took place simultaneously across the country in all NAF units.
He commended the personnel for participating in the exercise, saying that their participation had shown that they are men and women that are physically fit.
“I want to congratulate you for participating in this Third Quarter Route March 2018, besides you, you will see men and women that are physically fit.
“Remember, you are not the only people that are in the Air Force, they are some that could not attend because they were sick, some because of exigencies.
“The fact that you are here and taking part in this exercise, you have proved beyond reasonable doubt that are you are physically fit, willing and you are ready to serve this nation means a lot to us,” he said.
The air chief said that the huge turnout of personnel was an indication that they are available to serve the country, adding “these are men and women that fight for people that can’t fight for themselves”.
“Remember, in taking part in this exercise, you have convinced yourself that are you fit, you have given us reason to believe that the men and women we have are physically fit.
“And you are reassuring this country that we have very physically fit men and women of the Nigerian Air Force.
“This is very very important to us, it is very important to this country, so I enjoined you to continue to train for the next quarter exercise, once again I congratulate you,” Abubakar said. (NAN)

Kaduna, June 30, 2018 (NAN) The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Maj-Gen Mohammed Mohammed, says physical mental fitness is the business of the military all the time.
Mohammed said this during the Second Route March Exercise of 10kms walk and jog organised by the Nigerian Air Force, Air Training Command (AOC), Kaduna.
The GOC, who was the Special Guest of Honor at the occasion, said “the business of the military is about been active all the time’’.
According to him, you cannot be active if you are not engaged in exercise of this nature.
“Once you are fit, it determines your performance in any field of exercise in operation.
“Physical strength, health wise in terms of Biomedics and others at the end of the day relives you,’’ he said.
The GOC said a better able body man is more deployable than who is not physically fit.
He said that fitness of officers and men of military was a pre-requisite for successful operations.
The commanding officer thanked the Air Officer, AOC Kaduna, AVM Muhammad Ademu, for honouring him, saying 1 Division will participate fully in the next exercise.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that prizes were given to those who excelled during the exercise.
NAN also reports that some sister agencies who participated in the exercise include Prison Service, Police, DSS and Civil Defence Corps.
The event is a routine activity of the NAF designed to encourage physical fitness of the NAF personnel. (NAN)

TAC conducts route march to improve officers’ fitness

Makurdi, June 30, 2018 (NAN) The Tactical Air Command (TAC) Headquarters, Makurdi, Nigerian Air Force (NAF), on Saturday conducted its Second Route March Exercise to improve officers fitness.
Addressing the officers during the march in Makurdi, the TAC Air Officer Commanding, Air Vice Marshal Isaka Amao, said the exercise was to enhance their operational effectiveness and body fitness.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the route march, which commenced at exactly 6 a.m, started at Base Service Group (BSG) 151 to Principal Staff Officers (PSO) lodge, covered a distance of 10kms.
Amao explained that the exercise was primarily organised for the purpose of ensuring personal fitness and wellbeing to enhance the performance of officers assigned military duties.
He said that as members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, NAF officers had to be battle ready professionally, physically and otherwise to be a blessing to defend the territorial integrity of the country.
“As members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, our battle readiness must be supported by our being physically fit to carry out assigned military duties. To maintain this momentum, you must develop the habit of exercising regularly.
“We must be ready at all times to contribute our quota in the ongoing Operation Lafiya Dole, Operation Delta Safe, OPWS and other internal security operations across the country.
“I am delighted that you all not only participated in the route march but completed the exercise hale and hearty.
“This demonstrates your unflinching readiness and loyalty to defend the territorial integrity of our great country Nigeria at all times,” he said. (NAN)

Abuja, Mach 3, 2018 (NAN) Jaytees Well-being (an NGO), Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN) among others, have urged women to shun negative perception and become relevance in the society.
Mrs Omolola Orelu, Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, made the call at a road walk on Wednesday in Abuja to commemorate the International Women’s Day marked annually on March 8.
She urged women not to be deterred by societal stigma and perception rather they should be resolute fulfilled, proud and comfortable “in their skin, chosen career, jobs’’ and whatever they find themselves doing.
Orelu who spoke on the theme of the year titled: “Press for Progress ‘’ identified total well being through regular exercise as key to achieving progress in any chosen discipline.
`You can only apply your best on your vocation when you are fit and healthy.
“The walk is to enhance fitness, total well being hence we are collaborating with Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN) among other organisation.
“Before you can actually do anything you need to be fit. We are encouraging people; all women once you can walk and fit enough to be on your feet to work then you can step out for progress.
“The exercise was geared toward exposing women with certain health challenges to a healthy living standard,’’ she said.
Also, Mrs Hauwa Alkashim, Founder Infinite Wealth an NGO, said there was the need for women to take their personal well being seriously as well as being self reliant and empowered.
Alkashiim who described exercise as essential to total well being urged women to desist from sedentary living and make regularly exercise a priority in order to remain healthy and attain their full potentials.
Similarly, Mrs Kate Okoh, CEO, Okoh Investment Ltd said women should not be idle adding that the reason some women nag was due to idleness and lack of self sustenance.
“`I urge women to get something doing for this will ensure relative peace between them, their husbands and children.
“Through this effort they can conveniently provide for the children when they desire anything or any home upkeep without necessarily waiting for their husbands.
“Finance is the basic thing in marriage and if a woman is not engaged and demand money from the husband but unable to provide she will resort to nagging,’’ she said.
Meanwhile, Mrs Funmilayo Osiegbu , Chairperson FCT Chapter of BRECAN urged every women above 40 to go for regularly check up or mammogram to guide against late presentation of cancer.
She further identified regularly exercise as key to remain healthy and guide against non communicable diseases.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that International Women’s Day is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
