Police Games: Force Headquarters lead the way as athletics events take centre stage

Oba (Anambra), March 6, 2020 (NAN) The track and field events of the 12th Nigerian Police Games (NPG) on Friday saw a good number of medals being shared by athletes from the participating zones.

But athletes from Force Headquarters took the centre stage with several triumphs.

Queensley Asedo of Zone 5 won gold in the 10km Walk Race for women in 55 mins 46 secs.

Seyi Shofeson from Zone 2 winning silver with 68.09 and Josephine Clement of Zone 3 the bronze.

In the male 10km, Lawrence Oluwaseyi from Force Headquarters returned after 50.55 to win gold, while Kazeem Adeyemi representing Lagos finished after 53.24 for silver.

Alade Felix of Force Headquarters ended the race in 53.27 to win the bronze medal.

Force Headquarters won the gold medal in 5000m women through Helen Mamman in 20.32 mins, while Mary Joseph of Zone 3 won the silver after finishing in 22.58.

Dorcas Ambo, also of Force Headquarters, won the bronze medal in 23.26.

Women’s shot put was also won by Zone 2’s Uju Anonefo after throwing over 13.65m, while Patricia Uzugebu of Zone 7 won silver with 11.86 metres.

Nkiruka Onuejizu from Zone 6 won the gold in 100m women with 12.25, while Thomas Goodness and Okonkwo, both from Force Headquarters, won silver and bronze with 12.71 and 12.76 respectively.

In the men’s 100m, Akintola Alaba from Force Headquarters clinched the gold.

The silver and bronze medals were won by Zone 11 after Areola Efunsile and Akomolafe finished in 10.98 and 11.06 respectively.

Force Headquarters, Zone 2 and Zone 11 won the gold, silver and bronze medals in the 4 x 100m mixed relay with 46.6, 47.09 and 52.34 respectively.

Linda Friday won the 200m gold for Zone 7 in 24.70, while Nkiruka Onuejizu secured silver for Zone 6 with 24.71 and Goodness Thomas of Force Headquarters the bronze with 25.65.

Police Games: Force Headquarters win male singles gold in scrabble, shine in hockey

Awka, March 1, 2020 (NAN) Patrick Omini of Force Headquarters (FHQ) Abuja won the second gold medal available in the scrabble event at the 12th Nigerian Police Games (NPG) on Sunday in Awka.

Omini claimed the gold medal in the male category of the singles event after eight wins and 935 accumulated points.

Joy Egbe of Zone 5 had earlier picked the sport’s first gold medal after winning in the female category with seven wins and 1,378 accumulated points.

Ubi Oju representing Zone 6 won silver in the male category with seven wins and 1,087 accumulated points.

Adegoke Adesanya from Zone 2 won the bronze medal with seven wins and 850 accumulated points.

In other events, the round-robin series stage of the hockey competition began with a total of four matches.

In the male category, FHQ defeated their counterparts from Zone 2 and Zone 1 with 1-0 scorelines while Zone 3 secured a 0-0 draw with their opponents from Zone 7.

In the only game played in the female category, Zone 7 defeated their rivals from Zone 1 1-0.

Kalat Shammang, Chairman of the Police Hockey Federation, said the competition was in a league format where the top three would win the gold, silver and bronze medals.

Shammang, who is a member of the Technical Committee, commended the quality of play and the positive rivalry among the teams.
