Abuja, June 7, 2019 (NAN) Dr Theodore Yakubu, a gynaecologist, has advised women susceptible to dyspareunia (sexual, yeast infections) to avoid using nylon (elastic) pants to free themselves of such infections.
Yakubu gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
According to him, painful sexual intercourse can be a sign of underlying medical disorder such as yeast infection, sexually transmitted infections and endometriosis, among others.
He explained that painful intercourse caused by yeast infection could be prevented by wearing cotton under pants as well as practice of good hygiene.
He urged women with such experience to imbibe the practice of cleaning from front to the back after using the toilet as well as urinating after sex.
He said such a practice helped to avoid bladder infections, which was a contributor to the condition.
The gynaecologist also recommended the use of lubricants where vaginal dryness was rampant for easy penetration to help prevent the condition.
He noted that the use of condom against sexually transmitted diseases as well as maintaining a sexual relationship with one person was another measure to prevent the disease.
Yakubu however said that treatment of the condition should start from knowing its underlying cause.
He also recommended anti-fungal drugs for the treatment of yeast infection as well as antibiotics for urinary tract infections and other sexually transmitted diseases. (NAN)

Ikpe while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja, described bladder infection as bacterial infection of the bladder, when bacteria get into the urethra.
“Bladder infections can be treated with antibiotics but if it repeatedly develops, that the case may be severe.
“Anyone with such severe case should not hesitate to see qualified medical doctor immediately for treatment.
“Treating bladder infection means suppressing the bacteria that are causing the pains in the bladder and such a person could live a healthy live,’’ said the physician.
Ikpe said that not urinating immediately and keeping the urine in the bladder for long is the most common cause of bladder infection.
He advised people to take water frequently, stressing that it will help in hydrating the body and flushing the system.
“When you drink more water it may help to wash out any bacteria that entered the bladder,’’ he said.
Ikpe said the symptoms of bladder infection includes pain when urinating, frequent need to urinate and discomfort in the lower abdomen.
Other symptoms, according to him, are smelly urine and bloody urine.

Children
Ilorin, Aug. 1, 2018 (NAN) Mrs Wosilat Yusuf, a health expert, has advised mothers and women to use cotton diapers and cotton wool for children and themselves for health reasons.
The matron gave this advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Wednesday.
She noted that it had become a new trend for mothers to use only disposable diapers for their babies, thereby misusing it, for many hours, some change it only once in 24 hours.
“Baby diaper should be changed as soon as it is wet with urine or defecation, but because of the nature of disposable diaper, some mothers do not pay attention to it
“Some mothers are even aware that the diaper is wet, but they refuse to change it, because of the cost of buying disposable diapers, so they leave the diaper to be swollen with urine before they are convinced that it should be changed,” she said.
Yusuf said that the long hours that diapers spent on babies could cause lots of harm to the children, apart from skin rash, it can cause skin infection and some other prolong illness.
The matron therefore advised mothers to change baby diaper immediately it is wet and suggested the use of cotton diapers, which is affordable and could be used many times, if properly maintained.
She also advised women to use cotton wool for their menstrual period, which she said is very hygienic and affordable.
“It has been discovered that women use sanitary pad for many hours, without changing it and this is very dangerous to their health
“Some women use just one pad throughout the day, while at work, and use another one throughout the night, which is not hygienic and also dangerous to their health,” she said.
The matron said that it was expensive to use both disposable and sanitary pad, as it needs to be changed four to five times or even more, on daily basis, so it is better to use cotton diaper and cotton wool for women, which is affordable and healthy. (NAN)
