Ramadan: Nasarawa governor-elect urges prayers for country, leaders

Lafia, May 7, 2019 (NAN) Mr Abdullahi Sule, the Nasarawa State governor-elect, has called for special prayers for peace, unity and progress of the country during and after the Ramadan.

Sule made the appeal on Tuesday while hosting a delegation of Karu community, from Karu Local Government Area of the state, in his campaign office in Lafia.

He said that peace is panacea to the development of any society, hence the need for his call, adding that no society will achieve meaningful progress without peace and unity.

He commended the delegation for identifying with him over his victory at the governorship poll, while assuring them that he will not fail in his responsibilities as the state governor.

Sule also assured them that he would focus on the development of Karu Local Government Area considering its proximity to the Federal Captiatal Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Besides, he told the delegation that he would fulfill his campaign promises in order to improve on the standard of living of the people of the state.

The governor-elect therefore called on the people of the state to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration at both the federal and state levels in order to enjoy more dividends of democracy.

Earlier, Mr Victor Terrah, the state Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, who is also the leader of the delegation, said that the visit was to congratulate Sule on his victory at the governorship poll.

Terrah wished him success and prayed for him to officially assumed office on May 2019.

The Chairman of Karu LGA, Mr Samuel Akala, appealed to the governor-elect to consider members of the area in his administration.

Akala promised to give adequate attention to the protection of life and property.

He also pledged his readiness to key into people’s oriented projects in order to better the lives of the people of the area. (NAN)

Karu (Nasarawa State), Feb. 8, 2018 (NAN) Alhaji Hashimu Jibrin, a member at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has appealed to the Federal Government to provide healthcare and infrastructural facilities in Karu Local Government Area.
Jibrin (APC-Karu/Gitata) made the appeal on Thursday in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Karu, near Abuja.
The lawmaker, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Land and Urban Development, said the federal government’s intervention would help in developing the area.
“About 80 per cent of civil servants working in Abuja are residing in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
“This development has put pressure on the use of facilities provided by the state government, hence the need for the appeal,’’ he said.
Jibrin, who counted many gains of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the state on Feb. 6, asserted that the visit would enhance creation of job opportunities to the citizens.
He also expressed optimism that the visit would improve the people’s standard of living and boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.
The lawmaker lauded Gov. Tanko Al-Makura for developing Karu through the provision of basic infrastructural facilities.
“First and foremost, as a representative of my people, I want to appreciate Gov. Al-Makura for developing Karu through the citing of projects including construction of international market and road networks, among others, that have direct bearing on the standard of living of my residents.
“Gov. Al-Makura has done well and is still doing his best in transforming the state; the infrastructural transformation across the state is the good hand work of Gov.Al-Makura towards improving on the standard of living of the people.
“But I want to appeal to the Federal Government to come to the aid of my people to construct road networks within Karu due to increasing population, as about 80 percent of civil servants working in Abuja are residing in Karu.
“The construction of more road networks in Mararaba, Tudun Wada, Ado, Nyanya Gwari, One Man village, among other communities of Karu by the Federal Government, will not only ease their transportation problems but will also improve on their standard of living,” he said.
Jibrin assured his constituents of his determination to woo development projects to the area.
He called on the people to support President Muhammadu Buhari and Al-Makura’s administrations to enable them deliver more dividends of democracy.
The legislator also urged Nigerians to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities, and to live in peace irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliations. (NAN)

Abuja, April 19, 2017 (NAN) The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, has directed the FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat to immediately open the 135-bed Karu General Hospital to public use.

Bello gave the order when he and the FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr Babatope Ajaikaye, inspected the health facility at Karu, a suburb of Abuja on Wednesday.

He said that the hospital was expected to take off enormous pressure from the Asokoro District, Nyanya and Maitama District Hospitals.

The minister noted that the Karu hospital was initially a 225-bed facility built by the FCT Administration with 40 per cent leased to Primus Super Specialty Hospital (an Indian Hospital) for management.

He further directed that the hospital should immediately commence General Out-Patient (GOP) and Antenatal services.

Besides, Bello ordered that the mortuary be opened to the public, in addition to the Behavioural Medicine Unit that had since been operational in the hospital.

He also paid an unscheduled visit to the Zuba Hospital where he instructed that the medical facility should commence operation by May 1.

The Acting Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretariat, Mrs Alice Odey-Achu, and the Medical Director of the Karu General Hospital, Dr Marcus Mamman, conducted the minister round the facilities.

Odey-Achu assured that the secretariat was ready to commence operation on the appointed date at the Zuba General Hospital.

She reiterated that everything needed to enable the hospital commence services is already on ground, assuring that they were ready to start operations immediately. (NAN)
