Ilorin, May 20, 2018 (NAN) Kwara United Football Club on Sunday defeated visiting Mountain of Fire Ministry (MFM) FC of Lagos 3-1 in a Match Day 22 fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2017/2018 NPFL game was played at the Kwara Stadium Complex in Ilorin.

The victory sustained Kwara United’s good performance towards redeeming its bad start to the season.

They put up a sterling show to see off a hard-fighting and enterprising MFM FC in a game that saw them in front with just 16 minutes into the game.

Returnee Segun Alebiosu opened scores for Kwara United in the 16th minute, after an MFM FC defender failed to clear his line at the far end.

Ten minutes later, MFM FC got back into the game through Sikiru Olatunbosun, who benefitted from a through pass from Onuwa Chukwuka inside the penalty area.

Kwara United were kept at bay throughout the the remaining minutes of the first half, struggling to get the needed goal to guarantee a win.

Stephen Alfred, in the 48th minute, through a well-taken penalty kick, and Sunday Odudu in the 75th minute put the game beyond the Lagos-based side.

Odudu and Olatunbosun had stormed the stadium with a large number of their supporters.

Kwara United, with the win, now have 26 points from 22 league matches, and will play another home game, against FC IfeanyiUbah, on Sunday in Ilorin.(NAN)

Ilorin, March 11, 2018 (NAN) Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin on Sunday forced visiting El-Kanemi Warriors to a 1-1 draw in a Match Day 12 fixture of the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in the match played at the Kwara Stadium Complex in Ilorin both teams struggled for goals in the first stanza.

But the visitors from Maiduguri broke the deadlock in the 36th minute through Dasouza Anthony who beat an offside trap to face Kwara United’s goalkeeper Eze Chidiebere.

Eight minutes into the second stanza of the match, Anayor Ogbonna capitalised on a defensive mishap to draw the hosts level and send the home supporters into a frenzy.

Kwara United, however, dominated proceedings thereafter, but they could not find the back of the net as a result of wastefulness.

Speaking after the game, coach Imama Amapakabo of El-Kanemi Warriors said he was satisfied with his players’ performance in the first half only.

“I am satisfied with my players’ performance in the first half, but not in the second half. We conceded a cheeky goal.

“At the beginning of every season, I prepare for 140 points and I prepare my team for three points all the time.

“It was a game of two halfs. But I am happy with we are going home with a point,’’ Amapakabo said.

NAN reports that Kwara United’s John Obuh-led technical crew had been given a three-match ultimatum.

Since then, the team has lost one and drawn one match out of the three matches to put pressure on Obuh.

Kwara United will now travel to Jos to face Plateau United on Match Day 13.(NAN)

Ilorin, Jan. 25, 2018 (NAN) Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin recorded a 1-0 victory over Wikki Tourists of Bauchi to end a three-match poor run in the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Wednesday.

The match day four encounter in the NPFL played at the Kwara Stadium Complex in Ilorin was the hosts’ first victory of the season.

Stephen Alfred’s free kick from 25 yards out put the struggling hosts ahead in the 14th minute.

After the goal, both teams took the game to each other but fluffed many of their scoring opportunities.

Wikki Tourists’ Clement Udey almost drew the visitors level in the 41st minute, but his effort went inches away from goal.

The visitors returned stronger in the second half, but the return of Akeem Onigbari for the hosts  made life difficult for Wikki Tourists’ attackers.

Kwara United’s Luqman Binuyo was sent off for a second booking with three minutes left to play but the visitors could not take advantage of the opportunity.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kwara United had lost 0-2 to Niger Tornadoes on match day one, and 0-1 to MFM FC of Lagos on match day two.

They then suffered a 0-2 defeat to FC IfeanyiUbah.

Kwara United will now travel to Uyo to take on Akwa United on Sunday at the Nest of Champions.(NAN)
