Lafia, Nov. 12, 2019 (NAN) Mr Danladi Jatau, the Minority Leader of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has called on Nigerian youths to be vanguards of positive change by contributing meaningfully to the development of the society.
Jatau (PDP-Kokona West) made the appeal on Tuesday in Lafia while playing host to the Boys Brigade of Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ (ERCC), Akwanga Local Government Area branch of the state.
He described the youths as the backbone and pillars of every society, hence the need for them to channel their energy towards nation building.
Jatau urged them and other youths to always shun violence and other social vices in the interest of development.
The lawmaker commended the youths for the visit while assuring them of his support to the association at all the time in the interest of development.
“I want to commend you for the visit and to urge you to continue to be good ambassadors of ERCC, the state and the country.
“I also urge you to continue to preach peace and be vanguards of positive change in the interest of peace and national development,” he said.
Jatau called on members of the association and other Nigerians to support leaders at all levels to enable them succeed.
He enjoined the people of his constituency and the state at large to live in peace, respect constituted authorities and tolerate one another for development to thrive.
Earlier, Mr Joshua Ombugadu, the Chairman of the association, said that the visit was to congratulate the lawmaker on his victory at the Election Petition Tribunal and Court of Appeal, respectively.
He assured the lawmaker of their readiness to support him to succeed.
The chairman informed the assemblyman of the association’s plan to assess his performance. (NAN)

Lafia, Oct. 31, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Mohammed Alkali, a member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has urged youths in his constituency and other Nigerian youths to engage in activities that would promote peaceful co-existence and nation building.
Alkali (APC-Lafia North), who is the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, made the call on Thursday in Lafia while playing host to youths from Shabu/Kwandere electoral ward of his constituency.
He appreciated the youths for the visit and assured them of better days ahead.
“I will continue to provide the much needed dividends of democracy to you and other people of my constituency in the interest of development.
“I want to advise you to be good ambassadors of Shabu/Kwandere, the state and the country at large by respecting constituted authorities, be law abiding and to live peacefully with one another.
“You should also continue to contribute your quota to nation building by embracing positive activities and relate well with other people for development to thrive in our area and Nigeria,” he said.
The lawmaker assured them of sound and effective representation at the state legislature, while soliciting for more support from all and sundry to enable him succeed.
Earlier, the leader of the youth delegation, who is also the Councillor representing Shabu/Kwandare ward, Mr Yahuza Adamu, said that the visit was to show their unalloyed support to the lawmaker.
The youths also gave their representative a pact on the back for his leadership style in carrying them along.
“We are here to register our unalloyed support to you for appointing most of our youths as your aides.
“This is apart from your youths friendly policies and programmes that have direct bearing on the lives of the youths and other people in our constituency,” he said.
Adamu also urged the assemblyman to sustain the tempo by ensuring that youths in the area were carried along in the scheme of things in order to improve on their standard of living. (NAN)

Adamawa lawmaker seeks for healthcare centre in constituency

Yola, Oct. 9, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Abubakar Isa (APC- Shelleng) has called for deployment of qualified medical personnel and functional health centres in Shelleng Local Government Area of Adamawa.
Isa made the appeal under “Matter of Urgent Public Importance” at the State House of Assembly plenary on Wednesday in Yola.
He said the area has only one clinic at the council headquarters which lacked a qualified medical doctor and other relevant medical personnel.
“In fact, it’s not up to the status of a clinic; it can best be described as a health centre,” Isa said.
He explained that the clinic was an old party secretariat and that the few dispensaries in the villages constituting the council area were worse off.
Isa said that the local government, which was created in the 70s, with an estimated population of over 200,000 people, has continued to face developmental challenges, particularly in the area of healthcare services.
The lawmaker prayed his colleagues to urgently redress the situation by ensuring that provisions were made in the 2020 budget to uplift his constituents.
Many lawmakers who contributed at the plenary decried the situation and urged the house to mandate the state government to establish a functional cottage hospital in Shelleng and other affected areas.
The plenary presided by the Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Iya-Abbas, thereafter passed a resolution asking the state Ministry of Health to liaise with the State Primary Healthcare Agency to draft qualified medical personnel to Shelleng. (NAN)

Lawmaker distributes food, other items to constituents

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Aug. 12, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim, the member representing Keffi West Constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, said he had distributed 100 bags of rice, cash and other items to his constituents to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.

Ibrahim made this known while speaking with newsmen on Monday in Keffi, Keffi Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the gesture was in the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir celebration in order to cushion their economic pangs.

He maintained that the gesture would also give his constituents a sense of belonging and improve their welfare.

“I want to use this opportunity to congratulate the Muslim faithful on the successful celebration of Eid-el-Kabir.

“This is in order to improve on the standard of living of my constituents during and after the Sallah.

“I have distributed not less than 100 bags of rice, also I have distributed cows and cash so that my constituents will celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir with joy.

“All these gesture were done to improve on their standard of living and give them a sense of belonging,” he said.

Ibrahim also urged the Muslim faithful and other Nigerians to use the occasion to pray fervently for peace, unity, progress and development of the country.

He said that peace was the necessary requirement for the development of any society, hence the need for Nigerians to embrace it.

Besides, the lawmaker called on the Muslim ummah to see Sallah as a way of strengthening their faith with God and love to their brothers.

Ibrahim also assured his constituents of quality and effective legislation in order to attract more development to the constituency.

He called on his constituents and the people of the state to pray and support President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Abdullahi Sule’s administration to enable them succeed.

The legislator further called on Nigerians to be law abiding and respect constituted authorities in the interest of peace and development.

Lafia, Aug. 6, 2019 (NAN) The Keffi Old Boys Association (KOBA) of Government College, Keffi, Nasarawa State, has urged the member representing Keana constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Mohammed Omadefu (APC), to provide quality leadership to his constituents.

Mr Samuel Dallah, the Leader of KOBA set 92, made the call on Tuesday when they paid a courtesy visit on Omadefu in Lafia.

Dallah, who thanked God for elevating one of their own to be a lawmaker, assured him of their support.

“We are here to congratulate you on your successful inauguration as member of the state House of Assembly.

“We are happy because you are not only representing Keana constituency but you are also representing KOBA.

“We urge you to continue with your good character in which we knew you with.

“By providing good leadership and quality representation, and we believe that you will not dissappoint us,” he said.

He assured the lawmaker of their prayers and support to enable him succeed.

Responding, Omadefu appreciated them for the visit and assured that he would not fail while discharging his duties.

“I want to commend you for the visit and I assure you that I will provide quality leadership to my people by God grace.

“You should continue to pray for me and support me to succeed,” he said.

Lafia, July 22, 2019 (NAN) A member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mr Sulaiman Danladi, has promised quality representation and an all inclusive legislation for the benefit of the state.

Danladi (SDP-Keffi East) made the pledge at Lafia while playing host to his supporters from Keffi East Constituency led by his campaign Director-General, Mr Hassan Mamud.

The lawmaker, who thanked the people of the constituency for supporting him, assured them of people oriented programmes that would have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the constituency.

He promised not to disappoint the people of the constituency while discharging his duty.

“I want to thank you for the visit and to assure you of my readiness to key into good policies and programmes that will have direct bearing on your lives and the lives of others.

“I want to assure the people of my constituency of inclusive, effective, sound and quality representation in order to bring the much needed dividends of democracy to your door steps,” he said.

Danladi also promised youths and women empowerments so as to improve on their lives and for the overall development of the state.

Akwanga (Nasarawa State), Jan. 6, 2019 (NAN) Rep. David Ombugadu (PDP-Akwanga/Nassarawa Eggon/Wamba) says more than 15,000 indigent patients from the constituency have benefited from his free medical services.
Ombugadu, a two-term member of the House of Representatives, made this known on Sunday in an interview with newsmen in Akwanga.
He is also the governorship flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State.
The lawmaker, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Control, said: “I am into the governorship race to bring the much needed positive change to the state.’’
Ombagadu said he is seeking the mandate of his people to lift the state to an enviable height, with full assurance to serve their best interest.
According to him, over 15,000 people have benefited from his free medical services while 3,000 patients underwent different kinds of surgeries from 2015 to date.
“Intervention items such as medical glasses and emergency ambulances were also distributed to healthcare centres.
“The free medical outreach has gone a long way in providing succour to our people who could not afford quality healthcare services.
“If elected governor, we will run an all-inclusive government that will foster the core democratic principles of governance that will be inclusive, accountable, responsible and committed to improving the quality of lives of our people.
“In the last seven years as a lawmaker, apart from sponsoring of bills, I have been able to provide my constituents with 230 hand-driven boreholes,’’ Ombugadu said.
The legislator listed his achievement to include provision of 11 motorised boreholes to alleviate problem of water supply, thus providing the people with portable drinking water.
“I also distributed 300 wheel chairs to the needy and 350 tricycles to the youths in order to empower them to become self reliant,’’ he added.
Ombugadu also claimed that he initiated 1,500 boreholes across the state, adding “every polling unit has got one borehole which is ongoing in order to tackle the problem of water scarcity in the state’’.
The gubernatorial candidate said that he had successfully procured and installed 15 MVA power transmission station in Nassarawa Eggon, which is the biggest sub-station power transmission in the state, to tackle the problem of power supply.
“I also installed 7.5.MVA transmission in Wamba Local Government Area of the state, which is the second biggest power transmission in the state.
“All of these gestures were to improve the lives of my constituents and the state at large as you can even go and investigate these projects,” he said.
According to him, he empowered many women and youths as well as embarked on rural electrification in order to better the standard of living of his constituents.
Ombugadu, therefore, urged people of the state to vote for him and all other PDP candidates during the 2019 general elections.
The PDP governorship candidate also promised to ensure total security of lives and property in the state, if given the mandate. (NAN)

Nassarawa Eggon (Nasarawa State), Nov. 2, 2018 (NAN) Alhaji Ibrahim Muluku, member representing Nassarawa Eggon East constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has sponsored free screening and testing for hepatitis B and C for his constituents.
Declaring the three-day free outreach opened in Nasarawa Eggon on Friday, Muluku said it was designed to improve the health status of his people.
He explained that the free medical outreach was also targeted to help the needy by bringing healthcare services closer to them.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the outreach is in collaboration with Beaconship International, an NGO, in which about 400 people are expected to benefit from the programme.
According to Muluku, the outreach would also assist his constituents to know their hepatitis status and get treated free of charge.
“Hepatitis is a deadly disease, hence my desire to organise the programme for my people because a healthy nation is a wealthy nation,” he said.
Muluku advised his constituents and Nigerians at large to give priority to routine medical check-up in order to enable them detect early infection of diseases in their body.
He added that routine medical check-up is necessary in order to detect early infection of diseases as well as to keep the body more healthy.
The lawmaker also encouraged his constituents to embrace physical exercise for good health and for the overall development of the country.
The assemblyman promised to provide more developmental programmes to the people of the constituency in order to better their standard of living.
The Coordinator of Beaconship International, Dr Silva Itoro, commended the legislator for sponsoring the programme.
He said that after the screening and testing, those who have been confirmed negative would be given vaccine for three months and those found positive would be administered with proper medication.
Responding, Mr Sule Andah, the District Head of Alizaga in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state, lauded the lawmaker for the gesture and called for its sustenance.
The traditional ruler urged other politicians to emulate Muluku in order to improve on the health status of their people. (NAN)

Nasarawa (Nasarawa State), Aug. 28, 2018 (NAN) A member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mr Murtala Sodangi, has endorsed the adoption of direct primaries by the national leadership and stakeholders of All Progressives Congress (APC) to elect the party’s flag bearers for 2019 general elections.
Sodangi (APC-Nasarawa Central constituency) expressed his support on Tuesday in Nasarawa while fielding questions from newsmen in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the ruling party has announced plans to use direct primaries in electing its candidates for the 2019 polls.
The party tested the direct primary formula during the Osun State governorship primary for its flag bearer.
Reacting to the development, Sodangi said that the direct primaries adopted by the party would give APC members the opportunity to vote candidates of their choice.
He added the formula would also give every aspirant the chance to test his/her popularity and acceptability ahead of the general election.
“ I am in support of direct primaries. Of course, if Mr President wants direct primaries, I also want direct primaries,’’ he said.
Sodangi called on Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption fight in the interest of national development.
He described Buhari as incorruptible leader and a corruption fighter, hence the need for all and sundry to support the president to succeed.
The lawmaker noted that corruption had affected the lives and the socio-economic development of the country negatively.
According to him, Buhari is a man of integrity, incorruptible leader, a corruption fighter and by God’s grace he (the president) will win the 2019 general election because of his unbeatable qualities.
On defection, the lawmaker said APC in the state was intact.
“We thank God for that and we are united because of the good policies and programmes of Gov. Tanko Al-Makura towards impacting positively on the lives of the people in the state.
“I believe he is carrying everybody along, Gov. Al-Makura use to engage critical stakeholders when taking decisions about development and the party, that is why APC in Nasarawa state is intact and we are intact,” he said.
Sodangi said that the defectors were doing so based on their selfish and personal interests.
He expressed optimism that APC would continue to wax stronger considering the laudable achievements of President Buhari and Gov. Al-Makura in improving the lives of Nigerians.
The lawmaker restated his commitment to continue to initiate good policies and programmes that would have direct bearing on the lives of his constituents and the state at large. (NAN)

Lafia, Aug. 10, 2018 (NAN) Two years imprisonment and other stiff penalties await those who display signages indiscriminately in Nasarawa State, a lawmaker has said.
Mr Makpa Malla, a member at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, made this known on Friday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia.
NAN recalls that Makpa (APC-Wamba) sponsored a bill entitled “A Law to Regulate Indiscriminate Display of Signages Within Urban Areas of Nasarawa State and for other Matters Connected Therewith”, which was passed into law by the House on Aug. 8.
The Bill had been transmitted to Gov. Tanko Al-Makura for his assent.
Malla explained that he sponsored the Bill to address the notorious problem of the defacement of cities in the state through the indiscriminate use of billboards, signpost and posters, among others, by corporate bodies, religious organisations, politicians and political parties or organisations.
According to him, the proposed law seeks to develop a technical framework for signage placement in the state, including all necessary technical specification, procedure, roles, responsibilities and liabilities for signage placement.
“The principal objective of the law is to, among others, punish any person who contravenes, conspires, aids, counsels, procure or assist another person to contravene the provision of this law shall be guilty of offence and liable on conviction to a fine of not less than N100,000 only or two years imprisonment or both,” he said.
The lawmaker commended his colleagues for passing the bill into law, adding that the law will boost the revenue base of the state which would impact directly on the provision of infrastructure and other services.
“The law will bring to bear in our polity the sanity and order urban areas will wear when the law begins to be fully implemented. This is because the hitherto indiscriminate placements of signages in our cities will no longer be allowed.
“There will be engagement of our craftsmen and artisans, particularly our students in the relevant technology institutions across the state as the placement of signages in affected urban areas are expected to carry a standardised pattern.
“This will go a long way in addressing the teeming problems of youth unemployment.
“Under the law, the use of signages will attract what ordinarily will be an insignificant amount of fees depending on the size and purpose of the signage. The aggregate of the fees collected will go into consolidated revenue fund of the state.
“As this will also form the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) thereby diversifying the government revenue base away from monthly federation allocation,” he said.
The lawmaker restated his commitment to support and promote good policies and programmes that have direct bearing on the lives of his constituents and the state at large. (NAN)
