Giwa (Kaduna State), Nov. 29, 2018 (NAN) The Giwa Local Government Council of Kaduna State says it is investing more than N300 million on the execution of developmental projects across the area.
The Secretary of the council, Alhaji Usman Isma’il, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Giwa, headquarters of the local government.
He said the council would spend the amount on electrification of villages, rehabilitation of classrooms in primary schools and construction of new ones, construction of bridges to connect villages as well as construction of drains and culverts, among others.
Isma’il assured that the projects, which were ongoing, would be completed by December ending to pave way for the take-off of new ones.
“The Chairman of the council, Alhaji Abubakar Lawal, has cleared many roads in the bush and embarked on building bridges to link villages that never dream of testing the dividends of democracy.
“These people are not only happy but they are overjoyed by the projects because they were hungry for the projects for more than 20 years.
“Education is one of the topmost priorities of the council, when we came onboard, the chairman realised that our children didn’t have enough classrooms and he immediately embarked on rehabilitation of 20 and construction of 10 new classrooms,” he said.
Isma’il added that in order to give other students a sense of belonging, the council had initiated and disbursed bursary allowances to Giwa indigenes studying in various tertiary institutions across the country.
The secretary also lauded Gov. Nasiru el-Rufa’i for giving local government councils the autonomy to execute different developmental projects that would satisfy the yearnings and aspirations of the common people especially rural dwellers.
“The Kaduna State Government is doing a lot to ensure that people live in peace with one another especially here in Giwa local government; we highly appreciate his support and encouragement.
“The governor allows the current council chairmen across the state to execute different developmental projects of choice without any restriction,” he said.
He said the council had already mapped out strategy to build an orphanage home to cater for orphans and the less privileged in the society.
The scribe explained that the proposed orphanage would give hope to the hopeless, to accommodate the orphans and less privileged so that they could also feel as citizens.
On crises that engulfed the area recently, Ismail said the chairman was doing his best to reconcile the two factions.
“The issue of security is not only restricted to Nigeria, it is now a global phenomenon, our council was recently affected where herdsmen/farmers clash led to lose of lives.
“The chairman himself led the funeral of about seven people, we thank Almighty God that the chairman in collaboration with the state government were able to restore peace.
“The chairman immediately alerted the security including the military and the police who effectively brought the situation under control.
“Apart from that, the chairman separately invited the two factions for possible dialogue, this actually yielded positive results and facilitated subsequent meetings on four different occasions,” he said.
According to him, the result of the dialogue had reduced the hatred between the rivals, thereby resulting in prevailing peace in the area.
The secretary appealed for maximum support and cooperation from all and sundry to enable the council effectively and holistically deliver more dividends of democracy.
He also called on residents to massively vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming presidential, gubernatorial and legislative elections to take Nigeria to greater level. (NAN)

Warri (Delta), Nov. 15, 2018 (NAN) The Warri South Local Government Council has commenced the Maternal Neonatal Tetanus Vaccination in the area with a view to eliminating the scourge.
The five-day programme was flagged off on Thursday by Mrs Juliet Tidi, wife of the council Chairman, Mr Michael Tidi.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the inoculation is for female between the age bracket of 15 and 49, and was flagged off at the council’s Secretariat.
Tidi urged pregnant women to patronise qualified healthcare workers for proper health monitoring and safe delivery.
She explained that tetanus occurred as a result of unhygienic method of delivery and umbilical cord care.
“Pregnant women should as soon as they are pregnant go to the nearest health facility in the Local Government Area for proper health monitoring and safe delivery by trained health workers.
“Immunisation is key to the prevention of the disease, therefore every girl and woman of child bearing age must ensure they complete the five doses of Tetanus Diphtheria vaccine at appropriate interval,” Tidi said.
She urged the girls and women to avail themselves of the opportunity and get vaccinated, noting that the exercise will go a long way to improving their health status.
Mrs Beatrice Onwo, the Health Educator, Warri South Local Government Council, said the exercise would be conducted at fix and temporary fix posts across the area.
She said the temporary fixed post included schools, churches, mosques and markets, while the fixed posts were all the health facilities in the area.
“Before now, mothers use cotton wool and other things for their baby cord; there is now a new gel. There will be no maternal neonatal death again with this introduction,” she said.
Mrs Abigail Edokpaiye, mother of three and a beneficiary, thanked the government for the gesture, noting that it will help in eliminating the scourge. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), March 5, 2018 (NAN) Ahead of the local government elections in Nasarawa, former Administrator of Akun Development Area, Mr Monday Nanza, has called on youths in the state to shun violence.
Nanza made the appeal on Monday while fielding questions from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Keffi, Keffi Local Government Area of the state.
He also advised the youths and people of the state not to allow politicians to use them to foment trouble before, during and after the poll.
Nansa urged the people of the state to always preach the message of peace in order to have a free rancour poll.
NAN reports that the State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has fixed the local government election for May 26.
“As a politician and a stakeholder, it is our role to continue to preach peace and unity, considering the importance of peace to the socio-economic development of the society.
“It is in view of this, I want to use this medium to advise the people of the state especially the youths to shun violence and not to allow any politician to use them in fomenting trouble during and after the local government poll,” he said.
Nanza also tasked the youth to embrace education and different skill acquisition programmes in order to be self reliant and contribute their quota to national development.
He described education as the bed rock of every society; hence the need for youths to embrace education, adding that knowledge is power, when one is well informed, he or she can move to places beyond his/her locality.
“Youths should channel their energy towards nation building, without the contribution of youths, no nation or society can experience meaningful progress and development.
“This is because youths are the pillar, foundation, backbone, agents of change and vanguard of peace of any nation,” he added.
Besides, he advised the youths to shun corruption, tribalism, nepotism and other negative social vices for the good of the society.
Nanza enjoined them to inculcate good values such as love and patriotism as well as being creative and innovative for the development of the country.
The former council boss further called on the people of the state and Nigerians at large to live in peace and to tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation.
“Nigerians should be law abiding, respect constituted authorities and support government at all levels irrespective of our background in the interest of peace and national development,” Nanza said. (NAN)

Sandamu (Katsina State), April 26, 2017 (NAN) The Sandamu Local Council of Katsina State says it will immunise 52,000 children in the ongoing exercise in the area.

Hajiya Sakina Zango, the council’s Director of Primary Health Care (PHC), disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sandamu on Monday.

She said the council has taken delivery of enough vaccines from the state primary health care agency, and engaged 89 trained vaccinators and 11 focal persons.

Zango said the four-day exercise would be conducted across the 11 electoral wards in the area, stressing that “our vaccinators will go house to house and school to school for a wider and effective coverage’’.

“The exercise kick started on the 23rd of this month and it would end by next Tuesday 27th of this month,” she said.

She said the council has increased Routine Immunisation Centeres (RIC) from seven to 10.

However, the director said “we conduct immunisation against measles, meningitis and other child killer diseases in those centres’’.

She said the area has achieved 100 per cent compliance on immunisation due the enlightenment campaign through radio, traditional and religious leaders.

Alhaji Sale Isa, the Sole Administrator of the council, commended the people of the area for their cooperation and understanding which led to the success of the exercise.

He called on parents to sustain the tempo, pledging the council’s resolve to continue to support immunisation campaigns to promote healthy and productive living among residents.

Isa disclosed that one case of meningitis was recorded at Jama’ar Chiroma village, but the victim survived it. (NAN)

Maiduguri, Jan. 22, 2017 (NAN) The Police in Borno on Sunday denied media report on alleged abduction of Alhaji Modu Ali, the Caretaker Chairman of Bama Local Government Council, by suspected gunmen.

Mr Victor Isuku, the spokesman of the command, dismissed the report while fielding questions from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri.

Isuku explained that Ali was arrested by court orderlies using private tricycle.

“Modu Ali was not kidnapped or abducted by gunmen as reported in the media.

“He was arrested by court orderlies based on an order of a court in Maiduguri,” he said.

Isuku added that Ali had been reunited with his family after he was released by the court. (NAN)
