Immunisation: Nasarawa Govt partners traditional institution on mobilisation

Karu (Nasarawa state), Oct. 29, 2018 (NAN) The Nasarawa state Government has urged traditional rulers in the state to mobilise parents to avail their children to all immunisation response exercise towards eradicating polio and other deadly diseases.
Mr Vincent Olotu, the Team Leader and member of the state’s Social Mobilisation Committee on Polio Immunisation, made this known on Monday when the committee paid a courtesy call on the Etsu Karu, Mr Luka Baba, in Karu.
Olotu said that the committee were in the royal father’s palace to seek his assistance to massively mobilise his subjects to embrace the forthcoming polio immunisation to eradicate polio and other diseases in the state.
He said that the committee would continue to educate the people on the danger of polio to wipe out the disease in the country.
The team leader commended the role played by the traditional ruler during previous exercises and called for its sustenance.
“We need to make sure communities in the state key into the response efforts of government; that is why we are here to seek your assistance on the need for you to mobilise your subjects to embrace polio vaccination,” he said.
He added that polio immunisation is not harmful, hence the need for parents to cooperate with vaccinators to eradicate the disease.
The leader of the team called for collective effort among Nigerians to eradicate polio and other deadly diseases to improve on the people’s health.
Responding, Baba thanked them for the visit and assured of his continued commitment to mobilise parents to embrace polio immunisation in the interest of the health of their children.
The first class monarch therefore urged his subjects and Nigerians to embrace peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their affiliation, in the interest of development.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the forthcoming Polio immunisation in the state would commence on Nov. 3. (NAN)

NGO begins political mobilisation of women in South West

Lagos, May 21, 2018 (NAN) Women Arise for Change Initiative (WA), an NGO, says it is mobilising women in South West states through stimulation groups at the grassroots to enhance their political participation.
Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, President of WA, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday that the time was ripe for women to actively participate in politics.
She said: “Women Arise has established in all South West states women political participation stimulation groups.
“These groups have started mobilising women at the grassroots to join political parties and to be active in politics.
“These groups also will engage the political parties’ leadership for women inclusion in decision making process.
“It also lobbies various political platforms so as to open space for engagement and inclusive actions,’’ Okei-Odumakin said.
The rights activist said the groups were expected to train women to take up and play more concrete roles such as contesting party leadership positions and also vying for elective positions.
“Presently, WA is conducting trainings for selected women groups on women participation and also working with women who have signified intention to contest in various elections at different stages.
“WA will help to develop their manifestoes and provide technical support for citizens’ engagement.’’
She appealed to women who are already in positions of authority to help the upcoming ones, adding that the country will be better-off, if women took up political engagements.
She said that God had given a woman knowledge, wisdom, understanding and strength which made them good managers of human and material resources. (NAN)

Abuja, Jan. 11, 2017(NAN) The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday, urged youths in its ranks to mobilise their peers for the party.

 

The National Youth Leader of the party, Mr Udeh Okoye, made the call when he met with the party’s youth leaders in states and geopolitical zones, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

“I charge you all to embark on a vigorous social media campaign and party membership drive.

 

“Please bear in mind that another key area is the capture of nonpartisan or undecided Nigerian youths, through sensitisation, mobilisation and galvanisation.

 

“Therefore, it is imperative we educate our constituencies to get their Permanent Voter Card (PVCs).

 

“In accordance with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guideline as stipulated in the election timetable, we will be embarking on states, zones and nationwide retreats to charge our youth leaders to go on grassroots mobilisation campaigns.

 

“It is important to take into cognisance the fact that it is our victory at the polls in 2019 that will set our country on right track of economy recovery which will guarantee job creation, security, and viable environment for the growth of collective interest as Nigerian youths.’’

Okoye said it was the responsibility of party members, especially the youths, to educate their peers on the need to vote for PDP and to secure their votes.

 

He also charged them to use every legitimate means to confront all propagandas and disinformation about PDP.

 

The PDP Deputy National Chairman South, Mr Yemi Akinwunmi, said that the revival, salvation and renaissance of the PDP were in the hands of the youth.

 

He pledged the party’s leadership support for the youth saying they would be given special attention and back up with every action needed.

 

Akinwunmi said if PDP was able to manage the youths well, it would make the process of regaining power for the party in 2019 easy.

 

“Research has shown that the people in the age bracket of 18 to 40 are very active electorally. We have all learned our lessons the hard way. We must do everything to return the PDP to power.’’

 

He charged the youth members of the party to dominate the internet and utilise it for the PDP to regain power.

The PDP Deputy National Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Agbo, said the party needed men who would go to the grassroots to work for it.

 

“Special time requires special people and special task.

 

“The special time that we are now does not require leaders but men and women who will go to the grassroots and work for PDP.”

 

Agbo added that PDP could not afford to take the youth, which constitutes 75 per cent of the voting strength for granted if it must win the next general elections.  (NAN)

Abuja, Oct. 25, 2017 (NAN) The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned high institutions in the country against charging mobilisation fees for prospective corps members.
Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, the NYSC Director of Press, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday.
Adeyemi was reacting to reports that students from some corps producing institutions were being charged NYSC mobilisation fees.
She said that the NYSC has not mandated any institution to charge mobilisation fees on its behalf or using its name.
She said that students graduating from institutions were not in anyway required to pay fees before, during or after mobilisation for the one-year national service.
Adeyemi therefore advised corps producing institutions not to charge any fee before mobilising students.
“If institutions are charging fees for mobilisation in the pretext that it is compulsory for youth service, then it is wrong and we will counter this because students are not mandated to pay any fees to be mobilised for national service.
“NYSC has not asked any corps producing institution to charge any fees in its name or on its behalf for mobilisation for service.
“If any institution is doing so it is doing it sorely on its own.
“We have heard reports that some institutions are charging mobilisation fees; we will ensure we investigate this and urge the institutions involved if any not to do so.
“NYSC has not asked any institution to take anything from any student. I do not know what fees they are charging and what they are calling it but whatever they name it is not in any way related to or tied to the scheme.
“The problem is that we cannot tell or direct these institutions not to charge mobilisation fees in the schools; we can only ask them, urge them not to do so and not to tie it to the NYSC,” Adeyemi said.
She said that the NYSC Director, Corps Mobilisation, was reaching out to institutions, who may be involved in this, and urge them not to do so either in the name of NYSC or on its behalf.
NAN reports that the corps has received several reports from students who claim that they are being charged fees for NYSC mobilisation from their institutions. (NAN)

NYSC 2016 Batch B stream II orientation begins Jan. 24

Abuja, Jan. 16, 2016 (NAN) The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will commence the 2016  Batch B Stream II orientation for prospective corps members on Jan. 24.

The NYSC made this known in its official website on Monday, adding that the orientation would end on Feb. 13.

It said that the on-line printing of call-up letters by stream II prospective corps members would commence on Jan. 19.

According to the website, delivery and collection of call-up letters to Institutions by prospective corps members who did not pay will start on Jan. 20, 2017. (NAN)
