Nasarawa monarch lauds association over poverty alleviation initiatives

Akun (Nasarawa State), Oct. 28, 2019 (NAN The District Head of Wakama in Nasarawa State, Mr Makka Nangba, has lauded Azhili Progressive Club Wakama (APCW) for distributing broilers (chicks) to widows and orphans in the area free of charge to enable them become self reliant.
APCW is a non-profit organisation in the state.
Nangba made the commendation while fielding questions from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in his palace on Monday on the activities of the association in his domain.
Nangba, who is a former Secretary of Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Council, said that the gesture would not only improve on the standards of living of the beneficiaries but would also reduce the poverty level among widows and orphans in the area.
He urged beneficiaries to use the chicks for the purpose they were meant for by rearing them for economic purposes to improve on their welfare and that of their family members.
“I want to commend the members of the association under the leadership of Dr Sam Anzaku for the gesture.
“It was on Saturday, Oct. 26, that the association distributed the five weeks old broilers (chicks) to 500 widows and orphans.
“As the gesture will not only improve on the standard of living of the widows and orphans but will also to enable them become self reliant.
“The association deserved commendation for the gesture, hence the need of my applause in that direction,” he said.
Nangba also called on wealthy Nigerians to assist the poor and the needy in order to improve their lives in the society.
“If other wealthy Nigerians will emulate what the association has done, it will go a long way in improving on the standard of widows and orphans,” he added.
Besides, he called on Nigerians to continue to support government policies and programmes in order to enjoy more dividends of democracy.
The traditional ruler urged his subjects and other Nigerians to live peacefully and tolerate one another irrespective of their affiliations in the interest of national development.
NAN recalls that on Oct.26, the association distributed broiler birds to 500 widows and orphans in which each widow and orphan got 15 chicks with bags of feeds and drugs, among other poultry inputs, free of charge. (NAN)

Umaisha (Nasarawa State), Aug. 15, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Usman Abdullahi, the Ohimege Opanda in Nasarawa State, has urged the Federal Government to create more jobs to the jobless Nigerians in order to curtail incessant kidnapping and other security challenges facing the country.
Abdullahi, a first class traditional ruler, made the appeal on Thursday while fielding questions from newsmen in his palace in Umaisha, Toto Local Government Area of the state.
The Egbura traditional ruler said that creation of more job opportunities by the federal government would go a long way in not only tackling poverty in the country but will also address security issues, including youth restiveness.
“A lot need to be done by the Federal Government in order to create mass employment opportunities for the jobless youths and other Nigerians.
“Creation of more jobs through various programmes will go a long way in tackling insecurity thereby improving on the standard of living of people in the country,” he said.
Abdullahi also called on youths and other Nigerians to be serious in their education pursuit in order to excel in life.
He added that education is key to success and a route to escape from poverty box, hence the need for Nigerians to embrace it with utmost priority.
The first class monarch also appealed to the state government to link the area with Kogi state through road construction in order to improve on their socio-economic life.
“Look at Toto local government, we are not developed, no electricity, no good potable water and no good roads, among other social amenities.
“We want the government to establish a higher institution in this area and we also want the government to link us with Kogi state through road construction.
“If these are done, it will go a long way in bringing in development, boosting agricultural activities thereby improving on our standard of living,” the monarch said.
Abdullahi further appealed to the governments of Nasarawa and Kogi to do the needful by collaborating with each other in order to return Kogi IDPs taking refugee in the area.
“I want you to pass this message to the governor that we still have refugees from Kogi state in this area.
“So, our governor should liaise with the governor of Kogi state so that these refugees will go back to their respective villages in Kogi,” he said.
Besides, Abdullahi enjoined Nigerians to disregard revolution calls by some unpatriotic elements, urging them to unite against such calls in the interest of peace and national development.
The first class traditional ruler also urged his subjects and other Nigerians to pray and support leaders at all levels, live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their affiliation for the overall development of the country. (NAN)

Akwanga (Nasarawa State), Aug.1, 2019 (NAN) A traditional ruler in Nasarawa State, Mr Samson Gamu-Yare, the Chun Mada of Mada, has called on Nigerians to tow the path of peaceful co-exist by working in harmony for development to thrive in the country.

The traditional ruler made the call on Thursday in his palace in Akwanga, while playing host to Alhaji Usman Bawa, the Sarki Gudi, a third class traditional ruler in the state.

He said that if Nigerians worked in unity, it would go a long way in promoting peace in the society.

“We will work together to promote unity and peaceful coexistence among the people of Akwanga, the state and the country at large,” he said.

He explained that the importance of peace to societal development cannot be over-emphasised, hence the need for all and sundry to work toward ensuring peace.

Gamu-Yare commended the Sarki Gudi for the visit and assured him of his support to enable his chiefdom succeed.

“I want to commend you for the visit and I assure you of my support at all the time, to enable you succeed in carrying your chiefdom to greater height and to promote peace among our people,

“The importance of peace to socio-economic development of the country cannot be over-emphasised.

“Peace is priceless and non-negotiable and it is the necessary requirement for the development of every society.

“As such, there is need of all Nigerians to embrace peace,” he said.

Gamu-Yare also urged the Sarki Gudi to carry everybody along while discharging his duties.

He, however, called on his subjects as well as other Nigerians to remain law abiding, while respecting constituted authorities in the interest of peace and development.

Earlier, Bawa said the visit was to appreciate the Chun Mada’s leadership qualities.

Bawa, who was upgraded from District Head of Gudi-Akwanga to third class status, pledged loyalty to Gamu-Yari for the overall development of the area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the state House of Assembbly approved the creation of four new chiefdoms of third class status on May 24.

The Gudi chiefdom was one of beneficiaries of the upgrade. (NAN)

Taraba monarch decries occupation of 17 Kona villages by suspected herdsmen

Jalingo, July 24, 2019 (NAN) Chief Augustine Njanmeng, the traditional ruler of Kona people has decried the occupation of 17 villages belonging to his community by suspected herdsmen in Jalingo Local Government Area of Taraba.
Njanmeng told newsmen in his Palace in Jalingo on Wednesday that the herdsmen were grazing on the farms of displaced people.
He also alleged that herdsmen were carrying sophisticated weapons to shoot anyone at sight.
The monarch therefore called on the government and international community to intervene so as to return the displaced people to their ancestral homes.
He added that his two farms sitting on 12 hectares of land had been destroyed by the herdsmen.
The second class chief alerted government of impending food crisis in the state, if those displaced were not returned to continue with their agricultural activities.
Reporters who visited some of the farms destroyed observed that several farms were grazed upon.
Mr James Ayuba, one of the farmers whose farm had been destroyed, called on government at all levels to end the crisis.
However, Alhaji Sahabi Tukur, the state Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), declined to react to the allegation
Tukur assured that he would comment as soon as the national secretariat of MACBAN authorised him to do so.
It would be recalled that skirmishes between suspected herdsmen and Kona community claimed several lives and property in Jalingo and Ardo Kola Local Lovernment Areas of the state. (NAN)

Kafanchan (Kaduna State), July 15, 2019 (NAN) The Agwam Bajju, Malam Nuhu Bature, has donated 16 bags of maize and wrappers to 234 widows across the Bajju Chiefdom in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Presenting the items at his palace in Zonkwa on Monday, Bature said the gesture was aimed at alleviating the economic realities of the beneficiaries.
The paramount traditional ruler said the decision was to also identify with the widows in the challenges they were passing through and their children.
Bature explained that he initiated the gesture 14 years ago and urged well to do sons and daughters of the chiefdom to join him in ameliorating the plight of the widows.
“I do hope other prominent personalities in the chiefdom would emulate me gesture and step it down to their various localities, villages and district levels, depending on the strength of those wishing to join in meeting the immediate needs of the widows,” he said.
He also urged members of the community to be each others’ keeper and expressed optimism that the items donated will be of help to the beneficiaries and their families.
Mrs Rhoda Musa, a beneficiary, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that she had always benefited from the annual gesture which, according to her, gave widows in the chiefdom a sense of belonging.
While appealing for such support from philanthropists, she assured that the items would be used maximally. (NAN)

Lafia, July 4, 2019 (NAN) Mr Sunday Namo, the Aren Koron-Kuje in Nasarawa State, has pledged to provide responsible leadership that would uplift the socio-economic and political wellbeing of his people and other Nigerians.
Namo, who is a newly installed third class traditional ruler, made the call on Thursday in Lafia, while playing host to the National Leadership of Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA), Uzi chapter.
The monarch also called on Eggon sons and daughters as well as other Nigerians to continue to live in peace to accelerate national development.
He commended the association for the visit and assured of his readiness to lead his people with the fear of God.
“I am overwhelmed and happy for your visit and to pledge my readiness to promote peace, unity among my people and other Nigerians.
“I want to call on you not to relent in your efforts towards championing the course of peace and development of the state.
“You are to continue to live in peace with other people wherever you are staying considering the importance of peace to societal development.
“Peace is priceless and non-negotiable and it is the necessary requirement for the development of any society, hence the need of my call,’’ he said.
He solicited for prayers and support to enable him to succeed during his tenure.
“I need your support and prayers to succeed because prayer is key to success in life,” the monarch said.
Besides, Namo called on members of the association to continue to support government programmes in order to enjoy more dividends of democracy.
He lauded Sen. Tanko Al-Makura, the immediate past governor of the state, for approving his appointment as the Aren Koron-Kuje and promised not to fail in his responsibilities.
The third class monarch further urged his subjects and Nigerians to always respect constituted authorities, to be law abiding and tolerate one another at all times.
Earlier, Mr David Abuluya, the National Chairman of the association, said members were at the monarch’s palace to identify with him on his installation as the Aren Koron-Kuje.
Abuluya, who is the Proprietor, Nacabs Polytechnic, Akwanga, assured the monarch of their prayers and support to enable him succeed.
“We are here to identify with our own, the Aren Koron-Kuje, on his installation and to assure him of our support and prayers to succeed,’’ he said.
The chairman, who noted that no leader could succeed without the support of his people, called on the stakeholders and other people of the chiefdom to rally round the monarch to succeed. (NAN)

Wamba (Nasarawa State), Feb. 13, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Audu Nuhu, the Gom Mama of Mama Chiefdom in Nasarawa State, has warned politicians and their supporters to shun violence throughout the polling period.
Nuhu, a first class traditional ruler, issued the warning on Wednesday while playing host to the state governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr Labaran Maku, in his palace at Kwarra, Farin Ruwa Development Area of the state.
Represented by the District Head of Turkwan/Yashin, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmad, the monarch enjoined political parties and their members to shun politics of bitterness and acrimony for a stable and prosperous Nigeria.

Besides, Nuhu called for peaceful and violent-free elections, noting that politics devoid of bitterness and rancour will go a long way toward promoting peace before, during and after the elections.
The monarch said the traditional institution do not have preferential candidates for the upcoming general elections.
“I call on politicians to play politics devoid of blackmail and bitterness, and should not see politics as a do or die affair.
“As most of the violence in the society are caused by politics of bitterness,” he said.
The monarch blessed and wished Maku and other APGA candidates success in their political struggle.
Nuhu however called on Maku to construct Wamba/Kwarra road as well as to provide infrastructural facilities to communities across the area, if elected governor.
He advised his Nigerians to live in peace with one another irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliations.
Earlier, Maku said that he and his entourage were in the palace to seek for the royal father’s blessings.
“I am here to seek for your royal blessings as I am here also to campaign in your area to seek for your subjects support and votes,” he said.
The APGA gubernatorial candidate promised to ensure security of lives and properties as well as to initiate people oriented projects if given the mandate. (NAN)

Esure Ijebu residents mourn as 86-year-old monarch is laid to rest

Ijebu-Ode (Ogun), Jan. 12, 2019 (NAN) Traditional rites have begun to commemorate the death of the Obelu of Esure, Oba Kamoru Sansi, who died on Wednesday in a road crash, while travelling to Ibadan.

The Ijebu Traditional Council under the authority of the Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, announced the commencement of the rites on Saturday.

The statement was signed by Otunba Jandu Etumora, Otunba Soga and Otunba Osifisan, the Baale Atoro, Ekeji and Eketa of Esure-Ijebu and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.

“We were implored to comply with the Obas-In-Council (OIC) resolution of March 1997 on the burial of Obas’ in Ijebuland.

“In a nutshell, the Obelu of Esure, Alaiyeluwa Oba Kamoru Sansi “ti waja” and was buried on Thursday, 10th of January 2019 at Esure.

“May the soul of our revered Kabiyesi Obelu, JANDU II Rest in Peace by the grace of our Creator, Olodumare, amen.

“No funeral is done for Obas. However a memorial will be done next year by His Grace,” the chiefs said.

NAN reports that the late monarch, Sansi was the father to renowned philanthropist and founder, Lifeforte International Schools, Mrs Sarah Olubi-Johnson.

In a tribute made available to NAN, erstwhile senator in Ogun-East and former Ogun Commissioner for Agriculture, Sen. Olugbenka Kaka extolled the late monarch for his virtues.

Kaka praised Oba Sansi for his simplicity, humility , contentment, philanthropy and social responsibility while on the throne.

He said that the late monarch made his marks on the sands of time adding that his memory would linger on from generations to generations.

“At 86, the exit of Kabiyesi, from mother earth, leaves a vacuum that will be extremely difficult to fill, if not impossible.

“The vacuum is not only created in Esure Ijebu, but Ijebuland as a whole, Ogun State, Nigeria and indeed the World, in general,” Kaka said.

Akwanga (Nasarawa State), Oct. 24, 2018 (NAN) Alhaji Audu Nuhu, the Gom Mama of Mama Chiefdom, Akwanga Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, has cautioned youths against engaging in risky behaviours and criminal activities.
Nuhu, a first class traditional ruler, gave the advice on Thursday when playing host to Wamba/Farin-Ruwa Youths Forum resident in Lafia.
He enjoined them to shun idle life and engage in meaningful activities for the overall development of the society rather than engaging in criminal activities.
He reminded them that indulging in criminal activities and other social vices had affected the education and lives of many Nigerian youths and the society negatively, hence the need for youths to shun all social vices in the interest of peace and national development.
The first class monarch also underscored the roles of youths in nation building, adding that youths are the engine room, pillar, foundation, backbone, agents of change and vanguard of peace of any nation.
“There is the need for youths to invest more on themselves by acquiring knowledge and skills as well as engaging in meaningful ventures and find positive ways to do something in order to earn a living so as to become self reliant and contribute their quota to national development,” he said.
While appreciating the visit, Nuhu further advised them to always remember their root by contributing positively to the development of Wamba local government and the state at large.
Besides, he called on the people of the area and Nigerians to continue to embrace peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliation.
The traditional ruler added that peace is priceless and non-negotiable, hence the need of the youths, the people of the state and Nigerians to embrace it.
Earlier, the President of the Association, Mr Solomon Madung, said that the visit was to appreciate the royal father for promoting peace among his subjects and their neighbours.
He assured the monarch of their commitment to continue to initiate good policies and programmes that would promote peace among the youths and other people of the area.
Madung solicited the royal father’s support to enable them succeed in their peace building and development efforts. (NAN)

Abuja, Oct. 2, 2018 (NAN) Mr Bulus Wakili, the Chief of Zhiko Community (Esu Zhiko) in Bwari Area Council, has appealed to the council and Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to provide functional healthcare facility to save lives of women and children in the area.
Wakili made the appeal while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview on Tuesday at Zhiko, Abuja.
He said that lack of functional healthcare centre had exposed his people especially women to untold hardship and avoidable deaths.
He explained that women in the community were often conveyed on motorcycles to cover about 20 kilometres to Bwari town to attend antenatal and child deliveries.

The monarch recalled that a woman lost her life recently in the community when she was on labour and could not access health centre on time.
He stated that the road to the community was so bad that no taxi or any commercial vehicle ply the route.
According to him, the road is not passable by cars during rainy season and that makes it difficult for his people to access healthcare.
“I am appealing to the Chairman of Bwari Area Council and FCT Minister to intervene and provide us with befitting health centre and other social amenities.
“You need to see a place they call Primary Health Care Centre in this community like “Juju House”, no health workers there apart from one woman who often comes around.
“A community of about 4,000 persons needs social amenities like potable water, health care centre and good school but we are lacking all these,” he said.
The traditional ruler lamented that politicians would come around to campaign and make promises but had never come back to address the problems of the community. (NAN)
