Lafia, July 16, 2019 (NAN) The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has set up a six-man committee to investigate the finances of Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs because of non-payment of staff June salary and unnecessary deductions of council funds.
The Speaker, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, made this known while constituting the committee, after Mr Danladi Jatau (PDP-Kokona West), raised the issue under Matters of Public Interest at plenary on Tuesday in Lafia.
He said it was disheartening that up till now, June salary of local government workers had not been paid.
“What is happening in the local government is sad and unfortunate; why is it that 16 days after, June salary of the local government staff has not been paid?
“We cannot fold our hands to see our brothers and sisters, who are working at the local government level suffering.
“I appreciate the Minority Leader, Hon. Danladi Jatau, for raising the matter; and other members, for contributing positively to it.
“It is on this note that I will set up six-man committee to include Alhaji Mohammed Alkali of Lafia North Constituency as the Chairman, and Mr Ego Maikeffi, the Clerk of the House, to serve as Secretary of the committee.
“Danladi Jatau (PDP-Kokona West); Ibrahim Muluku (APC-Nassarawa Eggon East); John Osewu (PDP-Doma South) as members.”
Other members of the committee include Daniel Ogazi (APC-Kokona East) and Abdulaziz Danladi (Keffi-East).
Abdullahi directed the committee to submit their report on July 22.
He noted that the House would continue to ensure that the right things were done in the best interest of the state, and for the overall development of the country. (NAN)

Kokona (Nasarawa State), May 9, 2017 (NAN) The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Works has lauded the Interim Management Committee of Kokona Local Government Council of the state for constructing  nine culverts worth N27.1 million.

The Chairman of the committee, Mr Mohammed Okpoku, gave the commendation on Tuesday while inspecting ongoing rural development projects approved for the area.

Okpoku (APC-Udege/Loko) noted that the projects would boost socio-economic activities in the state.

He said the ongoing construction of bridges and culverts by the State Government across the state would open up rural areas, and stimulate agriculture and socio-economic activities.

The chairman added that the development strategy adopted by Gov. Tanko Al-Makura would also boost human capacity in the state.

However, he said that the committee would sustain its oversight of all ongoing projects across the state to ensure that the construction of bridges and culverts meet specifications.

The chairman said that the exercise was not meant to witch hunt anybody, adding that the committee is mandated by the House as part of its oversight functions to ensure that quality jobs were done in the interest of peace and development

“Gov. Tanko Al-Makura deserves commendation for constructing rural bridges and culverts across the state as even the communities in which we are representing are appreciative of the governor’s efforts considering the importance of the projects to them.

“We are commending the Chairman, Interim Management Committee of Kokona Local Government Cpuncil, Mr Musa Namo, over quality construction of nine culverts worth over N27.1 million in the area.

“We are satisfied and happy with the quality of work done, it is a very good job, hence the need for the commendation,” he said.

“The provision of the bridges, culverts and other infrastructure would go a long way in fighting poverty, unemployment, youth restiveness and boost socio-economic activities in the state.

“The construction of the bridges and culverts will also reduce the hardship of the people of the state especially the rural dwellers and connect them with other communities thereby boosting their agricultural production.

“We (committee) urge the governor to keep initiating projects that would impact on the lives of the people,” he said.

According to him, such infrastructural development would also raise the revenue base of the state.

Earlier, Namo said the council spent more than N27.1 million on the construction of nine culverts in the area.

According to him, the projects executed include Angwan Loko/Anza Kundami; Kofar Ciroma/Hausawa Garaku; Arusu/Amba; Mararaba Maisauri Goni; Maisauri Hadari Ninkoro; and Garaku/Moro road culverts, among others.

He also lauded Al-Makura for timely release of funds for the execution of the development projects in rural communities. (NAN)
