Society to train 4000 youths, women on nation building

Kaduna, Dec. 20, 2017 (NAN) The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) of Northern states and Abuja on Wednesday said it would train 4,000 of its members, youths and women on peace and nation building.
Malam Yusuf Arrigasiyyu, the Chairman, Publicity Committee of the Local Organising Committee, made this known to newsmen in Kaduna.
Arrigasiyyu said the Annual Islamic Vacation Course of MSSN of Northern Nigeria would hold from Dec. 22 to 28.
According to him, the society has been organising series of training to enhance the capacity of its members to contribute to the national development of this country since its inception.
“Also to educate them to uphold the true teaching of Islam so as to contribute differently in all aspects of our life.
“The theme of the vacation course is `Turning Our Diversity into Strength for National Building’,’’ the spokesman said.
He said it was everybody’s responsibility to ensure that citizens were well sensitised to accept efforts towards for achieving national peace and development.
“Devoid of our ethnicity, region and religion; hence we resolve to train 4,000 youths and women for peace and stability of the country.’’
He said the male participants would be camped at Kaduna Polytechnic Tudun Wada campus, while their female colleagues would be camped at Queen Amina Collage also in Kaduna metropolis.
According to him, the State Police Command has pledge its maximum support to ensure that the event was successful.
“We therefore strongly believe that other security operatives will give their maximum support to ensure a hitch-free training,’’ Arrigasiyyu said. (NAN)

Abuja, April 7, 2017 (NAN) Mr Otive Igbuzor, the Executive Director, African Centre For Leadership, Strategy and Development, an NGO, on Friday said mentoring of youths in the country was key to nation building.

Igbuzor gave the advice during the presentation of prizes to the SheImpact Essay winners organised by the Women Trust Fund on Abuja.

“Mentoring is very important; it helps for guidance and proper modeling of the youth people in the country.

“Many youths had failed not because they don’t have capacity to do so but in most cases they don’t have proper guidance and counseling, and therefore make mistakes that could be avoided,” he said.

Igbuzor said mentoring was important as knowledge and skills can learnt from mentors, adding that mentoring provides professional socialisation and personal support to facilitate success.

On women participation in politics, he said women needed to show more interest in the politics.

However, he noted that violence in politics had made women not to participate in politics in the country, saying the beginning of winning is participation.

The Chief Executive Officer of Women Trust Fund, Mrs Funke Baruwa, said women needed to prepare to occupy leadership positions in the country by having adequate qualifications.

She said the essay competition was a conscious effort in producing the next generation of leaders.

Baruwa said the topic of the essay competition was “Dynamics of the political participation and implication for young women”, adding the young women were selected through an online process.

She said about 1000 participated but narrowed down to 50 with three selected as the overall best. (NAN)
